  2. What are the three things that a CEO is responsible for?
  3. Vision sharing, off site planning, Daily Huddles, State of the Monkey emails, weekly all-team meetings, surveys, orientations, company get togethers, one on ones.
  4. Multiple employees have followed me from business to business Trust your employees to do the right thing, and don't micro-manage.  If you can't trust your employees to be the CEO of their position, find someone you can trust or let go of it.
  5. People want to solve hard problems and do big things. Vision. Show people what you want to have happen. Ask them to do hard things. Believe in them to do it and support them when their solid efforts fall short.
  6. Our employees know what we are working towards at all times.  Talk about it until you are SICK of talking about it Every week, go over the results  Keep things fresh - 2-3 weeks per poster And make it FUN, QUiRKY and Memorable.
  7. Every week we have 40-50 Banana Bucks given to our employees from other employees, recognizing those great accomplishments!
  8. Birthday cards with Starbucks gift cards to every employee, spouse/partner and child.
  9. Ask your managers every week for things that the employees are doing that is above and beyond.  Email that out to the company Thank them personally with handwritten notes/cards.
  10. Our buildout was not really that expensive. We made smart decisions in our design, our paint and in our furniture. Created an office space that rivals any silicon valley office. - was recognized by a tech magazine as having an office that rivaled Dropbox, Uber and others.
  11. All of our baby pictures are on the wall.  Christmas Party - game where you had to match the baby picture to the employee to win raffle tickets
  12. Every white surface in our office is writeable - and available for brainstorming.
  13. We have a group of employees that we call the Culture Club They produce events for all the employees every other week - go play kickball, go catch a spring training baseball game, ugly sweater day, Fan favorite day (NFL), 
  14. Make sure all employees are aware of the wins that you have inside your company The louder and crazier the better! Even if customers hear the cowbell, it's great when they ask what is going on - we are celebrating success!
  15. One of the focuses of the company that I feel strongly about is giving service to the community. We created a team of about 8 people in the company who get together once a month to discuss service opps in the area. Over the next few months, we will volunteer at a pet rescue, run a relay for life as a company for cancer, and help clean and repair half-way homes for single mothers who have been freed from sex trafficking. 
  16. Your employees want to serve and help - give them the opportunities to do so.
  17. Donating Valentines gift bags to a charity that supports getting women back on their feet through housing, education and job training.
  18. There is nothing I love more than to have fun with our Tanga family.  I WANT to be able to take people on trips and celebrate. Two years ago, we celebrated by taking everyone to disneyland!
  19. Create tournaments - ping pong, fantasy sports, NCAA basketball brackets, Wii tournaments. I happened to get 2nd place in the ping pong tourny :)
  20. Get good at Planned Spontaneous celebrations - meaning, take some time to plan a surprise lunch, give out candy at Valentines day, bring a massuese in for a day. Do things to celebrate SUCCESS with the team. This does not have to cost a lot of money! 
  21. Start stupid traditions like hide the salmon
  22. Play practical jokes on your team members and get others involved.
  23. This is something new we are going to focus on. Instead of throwing parties for people who leave, we need to spend that time and money on people who are joining Tanga. Give them a gift basket with a Tanga yearbook, filled with vision and customers talking about Tanga. Give them a bottle of wine to take home to celebrate with their spouse along with movie tickets for a night out
  24. As the CEO, schedule a lunch with each new hire and focus on the vision of the company and how they can contribute and be the CEO of their position Give them a license plate! Tie balloons to their chair and make sure everyone in the company says hi and celebrates their first week with them.
  25. Create a culture of trying new things all the time. Do things quickly, and fail quickly so you can continue to grow.  Create a culture of having small wins every single week in every department. Always move forward and iterate quickly.  Set goals and daily/weekly, look at where you are in the business and make tiny adjustments as you go through the month.

  28. When there is a hardship, death or struggle personally with one of our employees, we try to always send a small gift, flowers and a note It doesn't take much money to show compassion to your employees, but they will always remember it.
  29. One of our employees had their family dog attacked by strays in their new neighborhood and the bills were $5000.  Tanga was able to rally our employees and friends to help raise the money to save our graphic artist's dog. Rally around your employees and show that you give a damn!
