3. New Territories & Napoleon
Napoleon needed
money to pay for the
war. So, Napoleon
decided to sell the
entire Louisiana
territory. For about
$15 mil the USA
received nearly
2.150.000 square
kilometers of land.
4. American Florida
Also Americans wanted to settle Florida which was a
colony of Spain. In 1818 Andrew Jackson took an
army into Florida to fight the Seminoles. So in 1819
Spain sold all of Florida to the US for $5 millions.
5. The Trail of Tears
There was trouble between the settlers and the
Indians, because Indians fought to defend their
homes. In 1830 Congress passed the law, by which
the US took away the Cherokee land and the land of
the all over American Indians. In the cold winter
they froze and starved to death on the way. This
tragic trip became known as the Trail of Tears.
