OUR MYCI IS AT A HIGH
SINCE COVID-19
WELCOME TO
MALAYSIANS
ON MALAYSIA
Our Malaysians on Malaysia study is
set to understand current trends and
pulse of the Nation in the market.
Since its inception in 2018, this study
has consistently reported on insights
and sentiments amongst Malaysians.
The announcement on non-mandatory
for mask wearing at selected indoor
areas, coupled with further relaxations
for international traveling, our MYCI
hits an all-time high of 120-points
since COVID-19 landed on our shores
two years ago.
As always, we continue to also cover
interesting topics like tech trends,
crypto insights and other key stats.
If you like to dig deeper into the
numbers, please do reach out to us at

USAGE OF E-WALLET
DIPPED
After reaching a mass adoption level
in the last 4 quarters, usage of e-
wallet recorded a dip. Malaysians are
now less cautious with using
“touchless” these days, and there are
many easy and convenient payment
methods available for use too.
M’SIAN HAVE POSITIVE
FINANCIAL SENTIMENTS
As Malaysians seize to be back in the
working world, consumers’ confidence
with their future financial state rosed
with the index hitting almost 140-
points; Inline with the optimism, spend
on major purchases’ index also rosed
to an all-time high of 130-points
M’SIANS REMAIN SUBDUED
TOWARDS THE ECONOMY
Through our economy indices
recorded an uptick, Malaysians
remain skeptical about the future of
our economy given the weakening of
our ringgit, the increase of inflation
rate and talks of Budget 2023 looming
around (at time of data collection).
All components of our MYCI showing
signs of improvement suggesting that
many have expectations of better
things to come.

o With the recent announcement from the Malaysia
government that wearing of mask is no longer
mandatory in most indoor places, and further
relaxation with regards to international travelling,
our MYCI soars to a 120-point mark in 3Q’2022 –
highest since the COVID-19 pandemic two years
ago
o At the same time, job opportunities continue to soar
as Malaysia sees an all-time low unemployment
rate at 3.7% since the pandemic
o All these events have indeed uplift Malaysians
optimism – not only at an overall level but also
across all MYCI components

3Q’2022 - as Malaysians seize
to be back in the working
environment (as unemployment
rate continues to decline)
o The optimism towards their
future financial well-being also

willing to spend on major
purchases now as the index
rose to an all-time high at 130-

the recent Home fairs/expos
which further drive intent

SPEND ON MAJOR PURCHASES
o The optimism Malaysians have
with their future financial well-
being is reflected on their
willingness to spend on major
purchasers
o The index is making its mark
with an all-time high score at
130-points mark since 2018
o The recent Home expos around
town further drive intention to
make these major purchasers –
especially among the T20s

  • 1. 1 MALAYSIANS ON MALAYSIA ESSENTIAL INSIGHTS INTO CONSUMER CONFIDENCE, BEHAVIOURAL, TECH & E-WALLET TRENDS IN MALAYSIA 3Q 2022
  • 2. 2 OUR MYCI IS AT A HIGH SINCE COVID-19 WELCOME TO MALAYSIANS ON MALAYSIA Our Malaysians on Malaysia study is set to understand current trends and pulse of the Nation in the market. Since its inception in 2018, this study has consistently reported on insights and sentiments amongst Malaysians. The announcement on non-mandatory for mask wearing at selected indoor areas, coupled with further relaxations for international traveling, our MYCI hits an all-time high of 120-points since COVID-19 landed on our shores two years ago. As always, we continue to also cover interesting topics like tech trends, crypto insights and other key stats. If you like to dig deeper into the numbers, please do reach out to us at theteam@oppotus.com USAGE OF E-WALLET DIPPED After reaching a mass adoption level in the last 4 quarters, usage of e- wallet recorded a dip. Malaysians are now less cautious with using “touchless” these days, and there are many easy and convenient payment methods available for use too. M’SIAN HAVE POSITIVE FINANCIAL SENTIMENTS As Malaysians seize to be back in the working world, consumers’ confidence with their future financial state rosed with the index hitting almost 140- points; Inline with the optimism, spend on major purchases’ index also rosed to an all-time high of 130-points M’SIANS REMAIN SUBDUED TOWARDS THE ECONOMY Through our economy indices recorded an uptick, Malaysians remain skeptical about the future of our economy given the weakening of our ringgit, the increase of inflation rate and talks of Budget 2023 looming around (at time of data collection).
