M’SIA CONFIDENCE INDEX
FURTHER IMPROVES
WELCOME TO
MALAYSIANS
ON MALAYSIA
Our Malaysians on Malaysia study is
set to understand current trends and
pulse of the Nation in the market.
Since its inception in 2018, this study
has consistently reported on insights
and sentiments amongst Malaysians.
With COVID-19 restrictions going
away and international borders
reopening, we see optimism amongst
Malaysians regaining strength to 108
on the index.
As always, we continue to also cover
interesting topics like tech trends,
crypto insights and other key stats.
If you like to dig deeper into the
numbers, please do reach out to us at
theteam@oppotus.com
E-WALLET USAGE ARE AT
MASS ADOPTION LEVELS
E-wallet usage has plateaued at
current levels at two thirds of the adult
Malaysian population for the last 4
quarters, suggesting that it has
reached mass adoption mainstream
status.
FINANCIAL WELL-BEING
SEE CONTRACTION
Even though indices still indicate
strongly positive sentiments now,
Malaysians are impacted somewhat
by the rising cost of living which saw
financial well-being numbers taking a
dip this quarter.
INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL
REVIVES
With restrictions lifting across the
globe and Malaysia opening her
borders, we finally see 10% of
Malaysians travel to their favourite
destinations abroad, on the way to
recovering to pre-covid levels.
Key indices of Malaysian perceptions
towards the Nation’s economy surged
this quarter to pre-covid levels
suggesting that many have
expectations of better things to come.
Malaysians now use an average of 3-
4 brands of e-wallets at any one time.
3. 4
o With all economic sectors back in full operations in
Q2’22 and international borders opening, our MYCI
continues to record an uptick; similarly, across our
economic indices too.
o This suggests an overall increase of optimism
across the Malaysian market.

o Diving into the individual
components, Malaysians are
getting more optimistic with
current state of the economy
where the index is now at the
100-point mark, and this
sentiment is seen to extend over
to the next 12 months too
o While there is an uplift on
economy index in the next 12
months, sentiments however
remain weak (below 100-point
mark) – given the rising cost of
living that Malaysians are
currently experiencing
o With job opportunities
everywhere given the opening of
all economic sectors,
Malaysians are also optimistic
with their financial well-being in
the next 12 months
o Given the rise of cost of living,
Malaysians are seen to hold
back on major purchases once
again in 2Q’22

CURRENT FINANCIAL WELL-BEING
o Malaysians remain hopeful with
their current financial well-being
though a slight dip is recorded
since its uptrend from FMCO in
Q2’21
o This can be due to the rise in
cost of living the country is
currently experiencing which is
seen to have dampened
Malaysians’ confidence some

CURRENT STATE OF ECONOMY
o After over 2 years of being
below 100-point mark,
Malaysians’ confidence towards
the economy is back as the
index surged to reach the
important 100-point mark in
2Q’22
o While is just at a borderline, it is
still a positive note that we are
moving forwards from the
COVID-19 pandemic
o As all restrictions (e.g. jobs,
travel, etc.) have been lifted,
these events have indeed
uplifted Malaysians confidence
that our economy is getting
better
