Evaluation task 1
1. Evaluation task 1:
In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media
products?
2. Overall, we took inspiration
from a number of places,
however we took heavy
inspiration from Breaking
Bad, directed by Vince
Gilligan who used POV shots
to great effect. For example,
our shot from inside the bag
is inspired by a specific shot
in the series.
I think that the shots work well
as it gives the audience
something different to view, and
not just normal conventional use
of camera. It also works as it
shows an innovative use of the
camera.
3. We took a scene from Die Hard
where a villain arrives, only to find
that the man that he is looking for
isn’t actually there. The
conventions used in Die Hard
inspired the idea that we had for
there to be a near miss in our
thriller.
I think that the shot and overall
idea works well in our thrillers as
it builds suspense as we think
that the man is about to be
caught.
4. The opening title sequence to
Delicatessen (1991), is a great
example of using a dark,
claustrophobic convention. It
also compares well to our shot
in side of the roof.
Shot of the inside of a pipe in
Delicatessen.
Shot inside the roof,
above the ceiling tiles in
One Step Ahead, my
opening title sequence.
Both of the these shots
foreshadow a certain darkness
and mystery in the piece’s which
again works well to create building
suspense.
5. I used the opening title sequence of ‘The
Stepfather’ to influence the shot from my thriller
as seen below. I liked the way that it showed great
organization, which is what I wanted ours to show.
