How Media Technologies Enabled Research, Planning and Evaluation
1. QUESTION FOUR: HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA
TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION,
RESEARCH AND PLANNING, AND EVALUATION
STAGES?
2. MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES
The use of media technologies has played a important role in my research,
planning and construction. Without them, my products wouldn’t look
professional or be successful. They have not only gave me with different
ways to present my work, but allowed me to gain experience in new software
and technologies such as Photoshop, Final Cut and Garage Band.
3. PHOTOSHOP
Throughout the process of creating my trailer, magazine cover
and poster, I used Photoshop constantly, helping me increase my
little knowledge of the software and also to create high quality
products. After using Photoshop for a number of months, I have
became more confortable using the software and feel like I have
a standard amount of knowledge using the software. To create my
poster, I used Photoshop to insert my main image and edit it to
look more professional. I also used the software to create
interetitles for my trailer and the layout of my magazine cover. I
often used the Lasso Tool to cut my images and place them on
my poster/magazine cover. I then would edit these images by
adjusting the brightness or contrast the colour, making them
stand out from the rest of the page. I also used the text tool,
shape tool and fill tool on my products. Without Photoshop, I
would have been unable to construct my products at a
professional and successful level.
4. ADOBE PREMIERE PRO
The use of Adobe Premiere Pro as enabled me to create a horror trailer
to a professional, highest standards possible. At the beginning of the
course, alongside Photoshop, I had little knowledge of the software,
however, as a group, we filmed and edited a practice trailer at the
beginning of the year, allowing me to learn the basics. I am now
ultimately aware of editing technologies Adobe Premiere Pro has to
offer as I have used video filters effectively when editing my trailer. Not
only has Adobe Premiere Pro helped me produce my trailer, but also
allowed me to use the software effectively for my evaluation question
one. I have learnt to perform various things such as editing the footage
by adding effects, such as fading, brightness and colour effects. Once I
was pleased with my final products, I could easily export my production
as a QuickTime Movie which changed my work into a mov. File,
allowing me to upload my trailer to youtube.com. This allowed me to
also gain feedback from viewers by the use of Youtube.com Adobe
Premiere Pro allowed me to insert sound effects and place them on my
timeline to play efficiently to my footage, making the production more
professional. It was easy to insert intertitles which I designed using
Photoshop as an image, making my trailer overall stand out.
5. FACEBOOK
In order to receive feedback on my trailer, magazine
cover and poster, I uploaded each product to
Facebook allowing the public to freely comment on
my print products and production. Each individual
gave both positive and negative feedback, allowing
me to make improvements to my products if needed.
Facebook also allowed me to easily keep in touch
with my actresses and actors, informing them of the
products progress and if they were needed for
footage and images. The use of uploaded my
products to Facebook also is a method of promotion,
allowing a wide range of audiences to witness my
trailer and pay attention to my print products.
6. IMACS
Media studies gave me unlimited access to a Mac which
allowed me to have access to a range of software's only
suitable for iMacs such as Final Cut Pro, Photoshop and
Photobooth. The use a Mac has also allowed me to keep up
to date with my work and check on my progress with up to
date softwares.
PHOTO BOOTH
Photo Booth has allowed me to upload numerous videos of
myself and others giving feedback on my products, allowing me
to take in others opinions and make adjustments to my
products. This has been important for my development and
planning of my products. Photo Booth also saves time rather
than using a camcorder as each video saves directly to your
Mac, allowing them to be easily accessible and used. However,
many people didn’t feel comfortable talking to the Mac with
Photo Booth which made feedback limited.
7. POWERPOINT
Microsoft PowerPoint has enabled me show my intentions in
comparison to a blog post. PowerPoint has also helped me use
different technologies for my evaluation, presenting my ideas in
many different ways possible. PowerPoint also always me to
develop my ideas in a clean, more sophisticated way other than
Microsoft Word, Prezi and Photo Booth.
PREZI
Prezi has also allowed me to present my work in a different way,
however, prezi can be hard to use but makes work look more
neat and professional. As Prezi is like a mind map, it has allowed
me to build ideas gradually for research and planning. Prezi is
most definitely and professional way to present work as it allows
you to go into detail as well as inserting images, videos from files
and youtube and links to various sites. Prezi allows you to build
your information and transfer information to conclude ideas. This
allows me to show my fellow student and teachers my progress
and how my work is growing.
8. SLIDESHARE
Slide Share is another website which has allowed me to
present my finding in a new method and has allowed me to
upload my PowerPoint Presentations and upload them into
my blog. This makes my presentations easily assessable
through Blogger.com and to be witnessed by others. The
programme also saves PowerPoint that’s you upload if you
need to return to them.
GOOGLE
Google has been a useful tool for my research and
planning as the search engine allowed me to access a
number of other successful products and numerous
websites. It also allowed me to search for images to
compare my own products too, allowing me to build my
products even further by making them look more detailed
like professional products. This has allowed me to build my
ideas and intentions gradually.
9. YOUTUBE
Youtube has allowed me to look at other media
products from previous students from my own college
and other colleges, this helped me learn the
conventions of the genre and also allowed me to build
my ideas. Youtube also enabled me to witness
professional trailer so I could compare my own
products to those which have been successful. At the
beginning of the year, I had to make a youtube
account, which allowed me to upload my product for
future media students to witness along side the public,
allowing me to gain further feedback. Youtube has
been beneficial throughout my research as I have used
it constantly.
10. BLOGGER
Blogger has be very beneficial throughout the process
of my studies. It has allowed me to upload all aspects of
my research and ideas and has helped me keep up to
date with all of my assignments. I now have outstanding
knowledge of blogger and know what it has to offer to
my studies. It has allowed me to present my work in a
professional manor. Blogger has allowed me to create
detailed posts and also insert other methods of
presenting work in a more professional way.
11. GRAB
The Grab Tool has allowed me to screen print my progress
throughout. Enabling me to insert images of my progress
with Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe Photoshop and other
softwares, which allows me to show others how I built
towards my final product in a neat, professional way.
DAFONT.COM
Dafont.com has become a website which I have used
regularly throughout my work, allowing me to download
different fonts for my products, making them stand out to my
target audience as much as possible. I used Dafont.com to
research different fonts and debate whether they were useful
or not for my chosen genre. Overall, this website as allowed
me to use a range of different font styles, to build my products
and to allow them to look as professional as they can be.
12. VIDEO CAMERA
The use of a video camera as allowed my trailer to be
successful, without it, my production would have failed. It has
allowed me to take ideas from my development and planning
and turn them into a production, enabling me to create a trailer
as professional as possible. A video camera is an easy,
portable way to take all footage in the most professional and
easy manor, allowing all scenes to be clear and detailed.
TRIPOD
A Tripod allowed me to ensure the production of my trailer was
successful, by making sure every single shot was steady and
smooth, making each scene more professional.
13. CAMERA
The use of a camera has allowed me to take photograph
of my progress, whether is were costume and make up
or location. It has allowed me to research different
potential areas to use for my trailer and also enabled me
to have professional looking images for my print
products.
