The document discusses how a media product represents teenagers in a post-apocalyptic wasteland setting. It summarizes that the story is about survival with limited resources and younger average life expectancy. The main character is a teenage male from a middle class shown through worn clothes. He is portrayed in a stereotypical way to appeal to teenage audiences, with hardy and accident-prone behaviors. No women are shown in the opening to emphasize the loneliness of the sole male character, portraying traditional gender stereotypes. The character and setting aim to interest teenagers by reflecting the isolation they may feel.

1. How does your media product
represent a particular social group?

2. The story of the opening sequence is about survival in a wasteland, there are limited food, supplies, etc. so the human race dies at
a younger age as there are no medical treatment. The age being lower means that it is about how teenagers will cope in this
situation different to the one we have grown up in. The concept of having the age being lower is that we could show energy of the
youth and how I could portray this with thrilling action scenes. The character is from a middle class as recognised by the
clothes, but they are worn just to give the aged effect. The gender is more orientated around the male gender as they are often
thought of as a stronger group.
The way that I presented the main character is to make it more appealing to the teenage audience and so the character had to be
stereotypical in the way he acts and the actions he takes. The way that he chooses to survive is more of a hardy way of living and
stereotypically accident prone and can only do one thing at a time. Women are not in the opening sequence as it is mainly an
introduction to the main character. This gives the effect of loneliness that everything is singular, the gender having only one man
yet again relates to ‘I am legend’. Having man be the more dominant gender means that the women are stereotypically passive
which is better to not have any women in the opening sequence.
The way that the character and setting connects to the target audience is that the age is around that area I was trying to
interest, the way that the beginning has no speech or any social action is that this is to show how alone the character is and that
many teenagers can connect to the character.
