• Definition of Aging:
  It’s the process of getting old. Starting at a certain age, operations of the
  human body begin to decline in physical and mental functioning. The
  genetic makeup of the individual together with the health and lifestyle
  determine the response to these changes:

• Causes of Aging:
  1. Genetic Theory: The aging of the cells of each individual is
      programmed into the genes, and there is a preset number of possible
      rejuvenations in the life of a given cell. When cells die at a rate faster
      than they are replaced, organs do not function properly, and they are
      soon unable to maintain the functions necessary for life. Human cells
      maintain their own seed of destruction at the level of the
      chromosomes.
  2. Free-radical theory: The most commonly held theory of aging, it is
      based on the fact that ongoing chemical reactions of the cells
      produce free radicals. In the presence of oxygen, these free radicals
      cause the cells of the body to break down. As time goes on, more
      cells die or lose the ability to function, and the body soon ceases to
      function as a whole.

• The Free Radical Theory:
• What are free radicals? Free Radicals are unstable and highly reactive
  molecules that cause oxidative damage to the cells of the body. As we
  breathe in oxygen and our cells produce energy through our normal everyday
  living processes, molecules inside of our cells react with the oxygen we
  breathe in. This is called oxidative stress.

• It is exactly as oxygen reacting with certain metals (like on a car) producing
  rust. That same “rust” (oxidation) happens in every single one our cells, as
  long as we breathe in oxygen.

• What cause free radicals? The oxidation process is produced through our
  normal everyday internal processes, such as metabolism immune defense,
  stress, toxins as well as external factors such as smoking, pollution, unhealthy
  eating habits…etc.

  within the body's tissues, they can
  cause damage to cells or to DNA
  contained within the cells

• These unstable molecules now go
  around the cell literally stealing

  diseases. They play a great role in the
