This document discusses the United Nations Millennium Development Goals that were agreed upon by 189 countries in 2000 to be achieved by 2015. It provides information on the eight MDGs including targets and progress made to reduce poverty, provide education, promote gender equality, reduce child mortality, improve maternal health, combat HIV/AIDS and other diseases, ensure environmental sustainability, and develop global partnerships. In 2005, 1.4 billion people lived on US$1.25 or less a day. 10 million die every year of hunger and hunger-related diseases. Rising food prices may push 100 million people deeper into poverty. But fewer children below five are undernourished - from 33% in 1990 to 26% in 2006.
But will everyone complete a full course of schooling?
