Liu et al. (2018) argue that childhood obesity lead to such health problems as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. These could either occur at a young age, or even during adulthood. Children are also at risk of psychological problems like anxiety and depression. In addition, obesity causes significant economic challenges. These include for both the society and the family. Obesity has emerged as a significant public health concern across the globe; the importance of early prevention and treatment cannot be exaggerated. Pediatric primary care is a promising setting for behavioral obesity prevention and treatment interventions. Primary care doctors provide a wide source of health information and interventions to the help the children and their families how to manage obesity. Primary care provides a multidisciplinary team approach where the children and their families are taught how to follow a healthy diet, the importance to practice physical exercises at least three times per week, the appropriate portion sizes and to limit the sweetened beverages (Byrne, Brown, Ball, Wild, Maximova, Holt, Cave, Martz, & Ellendt, 2018). According to Byrne et al. (2018), obesity results from a combination of factors. They include behavioral, dietary, social, physical, genetic, and psychological factors. Nutrition during pregnancy as well as during early life are also thought of as causal factors (Byrne et al., 2018; Park & Cormier, 2018). Since a significant number of factors are known, it seems likely that effective solutions would be found. Nevertheless, this has not been the case so far. Indeed, the prevalence rate continues to rise. The proposed study is, therefore, aimed at uncovering how childhood obesity develops, and how it could be prevented. The presumption is that changes should come from above. Working on policy changes would bring about timely solutions as the entire society would rallied towards a single aim (Liu et al., 2018). It is on this basis that the background question for the proposed research is “What policy changes are needed to address childhood obesity in an effective manner?”. In this talk for Cybersecurity Days at Ohio State University, I first discuss the urgent need for new solutions in the human side of cybersecurity, shown by the doubled increase in social attacks from 2013 to 2018 in the most recent Verizon data breach investigations report. I draw an analogy between health/wellness and cybersecurity, using the example of messaging around flu shots this time of year to point out individual and social factors that experts can leverage for awareness and behavior change. I then discuss our research at Carnegie Mellon to develop the SA-6 psychometric scale to measure security attitude and give examples of how to use it. I finish by outlining our research into cybersecurity in the workplace, in romantic relationships, and in the context of general social influence using consumer tools and apps. Many studies have tried to identify the factors of behavioural theories which can increase secure behaviour. The goal of this work is to identify which of the factors are reliably associated with secure behaviour across multiple studies. Those factors are of interest to information security professionals since addressing them in security awareness and education campaigns can help improving security related processes of users. To attain our goal, we conducted a systematic literature review and assessed the reliability of the factors based on the effect sizes reported in the literature. Our results indi- cate that 11 out of the 14 factors from well established behavioural theories can be associated with reliable effects in the information security context. These factors cover very different aspects: influence of the users skills, whether the environment makes it possible to exhibit secure behaviour, the influence of friends or co-workers, and the perceived properties of the secure behaviour (e.g. response cost). Also, we identify areas, where more studies are needed to increase the confidence of the factors’ reliability assessment. SUNY Empire State College has been one of the founding institutions in immersive, virtual education having islands on Second Life (www.secondlife.com) since 2004 and classes and meetings on the islands for almost as many years. As this fall academic year begins, a band of intrepid faculty and staff are continuing their own learning and peer support through the Virtual Affinity Group, which began as VirtualESC in spring 2011. As the education costs for Second Life rose, more open source venues emerged and extended expansive opportunities have arisen. As this virtual support community moves into yet another academic year, it will be hosting external speakers and events that will examine the borders and boundaries of emerging and open virtual experiences. The VFAC presenters invite individual interested in learning about our past, present, and future immersive experiences to join us in the Virtual Rotunda on the ESC island; we will share what lies ahead with the speaker and our own expectations. And, we will gather your ideas for ways we might grow ESC’s holding in the future. The focus of this presentation is to discuss emergent social media as a disruptive force facilitating the open sharing of educational content. The author presents case studies on the uses of social media to encourage open learning, collaborative learning, shared content and resources, curriculum collaborations, and student generated content. Bolter and Grusin propose that new digital media are not external agents that come to disrupt an unsuspecting culture. They emerge from within cultural contexts, and they refashion other media, which are embedded in the same or similar contexts. I demonstrate that social media can indeed serve as a disruptive force when appropriated, refashioned, and placed within a framework of critical inquiry and analysis, and that a movement to share open educational resources is part of this disruption. According to Lev Manovich in his seminal work The Language of New Media, the computer media revolution affects all stages of communication, including acquisition, manipulation, storage, and distribution; it also affects all types of media- texts, still images, moving images, sound, and spatial constructions. Social media such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Youtube, blogs, collaborative wikis, and a wide range of web 2.0 tools are taking this revolution to the next level as students and faculty appropriate the new media to create innovative approaches to teaching, learning, collaborating, and the open sharing of intellectual property and creative content. In addition, virtual worlds such as Second Life provide both an immersive medium and extensive tools for content creation, social networking, and the sharing of educational content. The author presents case studies on the uses of social media to encourage open learning, collaborative learning, shared content and resources, curriculum collaborations, and student generated content.
