But from our interviews and questionnaires, more than 80% people do not know Fab Labs. And for those who know Fab labs, nearly 70% people do not know how to start in Fab labs. In the same time, Fab labs want more people to join fablab and access new technology
Fab labs are global labs which start from MIT. it’s a open, friendly place where machine alow new technologies are distributed and friendly and people are here to help.
It is an open place for people to learn, collaborate, create and play. There are many devices like laser cutter, 3D printer, Ardunio. In such a high-tech supportive environment, children can enjoy access to new technologies by doing various physical activities
But from our interviews and questionnaires, more than 80% people do not know Fab Labs. And for those who know Fab labs, nearly 70% people do not know how to start in Fab labs. In the same time, Fab labs want more people to join them and share knowledge with them
To conclude, we have three main value propositions for our customers.
So our customers are parents whose children’s age is from 8 to 11 in France
Our channel, very simple, just our website.
We posted our project on Social Media, like Facebook/Twitter parents/teacher group. We contacted 3 famous parents associations in France and the Global Fablab Foundation. Since we don't speak French well. We also approached customers from the English resources website and the largest Chinese bbs in France. Moreover, we went to two science museums to reach families directly, to talk with real customers.
So far, we’ve got 28 families’ replies, showing interests on our project. And 3 of them did experience our field trips.
We also need to negotiate partnership with Fablab. When we pitched to those fablab managers, they strongly agreed the problem we found. But the UPS and UPMC Fablabs are mainly for students, and Carrefour Numerique Fablab is still considering the payment issue.
Lorem Fablab is very willing to collaborate with us. It targets at kids. They want us to bring more kids and parents to their Fablab. And we’ve successfully held 3 field trips in Lorem.
There are a few competitors who offer courses or activities for children to experience digital fabrication.
The educational tasks prepared by these workshops are clearly pre-defined and involve fabricating either futuristic models such as robots in the MakerCamp or school-curriculum related objects as does Fablab@School program.
So our product is charged like this: the price of the total kit include three parts: materials fee, model fee and reservation fee. At present, our material fee is based on wood board which is around 2 euro per piece. The model fee depends on the complexity of each model. And for the reservation fee, we set 1 euro for each reservation at the beginning to attract more customers, in the later stage, this will based on the different situation of different fablabs.
After getting feedback from users, we devide the models into three parts: the simple one will charge around 5.99 euros and the complex one will charge 15.99 euro
Week-Days(5%) +Weekend (80%) •
Fablab (Public): 26 kit/Week + Fablab (After-School): 9 kit/week
After setting the price, we made an estimation on the revenue for the next 4 years, based on the fablabs’capacity and families’activities, the revenue performance for next 4 years can be seen from the figure. We got a relative high increase from the third.By 2020, we will have around 1.6 million sales.
And we analyzed the cost structure. As can be seen in the table, our cost is mainly devided into two groups. Opertional cost and investmental cost. Operational cost includes Fablab, designer, salaries and etc. Investmental cost includes R&D, promotion and etc. And the performance is predicted as what shown on the figure. The cost of salary will weight most in the beginning since we build the website and design models, which cost a lot. Meanwhile, we spend lot of money on pomotion
And consider both revenue and cost, we could see the gross profits and accumulated profits act as in the figure. On the February of 2019, we got equal revenue and cost. On July of 2019, we will get break even point.
Make it even more clear
our customer only pay to us,that means, buy the point package, then models, materials, machines, instructions, everything is prepared well in the fablab. They can directly go to the fabled to do their work.
Fablab do not pay anything to us. It us who’ll pay a certain amount of our income to the fab lab for the materials, machines, etc.
But from our interviews and questionnaires, more than 80% people do not know Fab Labs. And for those who know Fab labs, nearly 70% people do not know how to start in Fab labs. In the same time, Fab labs want more people to come to make use of STEM values
