THE FORCE OF RELATIONSHIPS
Text: Luke 15:11-19

The people we align ourselves
with can determine whether we
win or lose in life.

Relationships affect our lives
and destiny.

Proverbs 14:7
“Stay away from a foolish man…”

Proverbs 13:20
“He who walks with the wise grows wise
but a companion of fools suffers harm.”

1 Corinthians15:33
“Bad company corrupts good character.”

1 Corinthians 5:11
“Do not associate with anyone who calls
himself a brother but is immoral…with
such a man do not even eat.”

Proverbs 27:17
“As iron sharpens iron, so one man
sharpens another.”

Ecclesiastes 4:9
“Two are better than one…”

The purpose in the God-
assigned connections is to
perpetuate,
nurture and complete God’s
plan for our lives.

CONTACTS – They network us.
FRIENDS – The affirm us and are
committed to us.
PARTNERS – These people share a
common interest or goal.
MENTORS – They produce change in us.
PROTEGEES – They learn from us.

The more we accurately identify
the “role” of people God is
bringing into our life,
the greater the potential for our
relationship will be.

The more people you are able
to relate to,
the more opportunities you
create for God to enlarge you.

JESUS related well to many different
kinds of people while remaining
selective with his inner circle.

His contact list included:
• Tax collectors.
• Fishermen.
• Government officials.
• Wealthy people.
• Common people.
• Influential people.
• Doctors.
• Religious leaders.

MAKE IT YOUR GOAL TO BE
FRIENDLY AND COURTEOUS TO
EVERYONE, BUT ALSO MAKE IT
YOUR GOAL TO CHOOSE WHO
WILL AND WILL NOT HAVE
INFLUENCE IN YOUR LIFE.

Some of the most likeable
people are not necessarily a
positive influence on our lives.

YOUR INNER CIRCLE SHOULD BE
RESERVED FOR PEOPLE YOU
QUALIFY.

1. Reserve your inner circle for people
who are committed to a Biblical
worldview.
2. Reserve your inner circle for people
who bring out the best in you.

We cannot force a relationship!

Irrational thinking and a lack of
perspective cause people to
disconnect form God assigned
connections.

FOUR AREAS OF RELATIONSHIPS THAT
IMPACT OUR LIFE MOST:

Our individual strength, no
matter how great, cannot equal
the strength created when we
join forces as a team with
relationships.

• What would it be like if you only had
your lower teeth?
• What if only one person tries in a
marriage?
• What if an ingredient is missing in a
recipe?

• What if a computer has a
malfunctioning key?
• What if one tire is missing off your car?
• What if one letter is missing from a
word (can vs. can’t)?

• If nobody had ever made any
agreements what would our world be
like today?
