2. DoT refuses to take CAG’s querycalls The telecom ministry has told the country’s chief auditor that it would not be replying to fresh queries related to the later’s probe into alleged wrong doing in the allocation of 2G spectrum and licences to new companies in 2008. DoT in its communication to comptroller and Auditor General of India has now cited the law ministry’s recent opinion which had said watchdogs cannot question policy decisions of the govt.
3. Earlier the CAG asked the communications ministry to amend licence conditions of telecom operators and add a new clause enabling it to audit the accounts of private operators that bagged 3G and broadband wireless spectrum. But DoT has refused to give in to this demand and has decided to seek the law ministry opinion.
4. Nokia loses 20% market in 6 months. Handset giant Nokia’s failure to keep pace with rapid changes in India’s Rs.30000crore mobile market has been seen its market share crash close 20% in first six months of 2010. The lastest IDC numbers disputed by Nokia accounted for 36.3%of handsets in india. Domestic mobile phone makers have capitalised on Nokia’s fall and doubled their market share.
5. Globally Nokia failure to connect with people has seen its crash 49% since the introduction of iPhone in 2007. Nokia introduced its first dual SIM Model -C2 –india in August, a move some analysts was a ‘startling late reaction’.
6. Blackberry maker rim introduces tablet computer. Research in Motion, the Canadian maker of the Blackberry smart phone, introduced its first tablet computer at a developers conference in San Francisco. The Company said that the new device, the blackberry playbook, would be aimed mainly at business users. The Playbook will use a new operating system developed by QNX Software Systems.
7. The new device can also display Web pages created using Adobe’s Flash software,a capability not found on the iPad. Unlike the most expensive iPads, the Playbook cannot connect directly to cellular networks. Users will able to connect to the Internet through the wireless Bluetooth connection to their Blackberry’s or by using Wi-Fi networks.
8. Pepsico calls for a pitch on energy drink &biscuit. The advertising agencies for a pitch to launch a product in the biscuits category as well as for low cost fortified beverage. The two products to be specifically created for India, are part of Pepsico’s innovation plank to introduce low cost, nutritional food products and drinks in the market.
