The EkoSkola Programme is an environmental education program that was launched in Malta in 2002-2003 as a pilot project. It is now sponsored by the Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, HSBC bank, and Wasteserv Malta Ltd. The program aims to integrate environmental education into the school curriculum using a seven step process. Over the years, the program has provided schools with support materials, staff training, and helped over 100 schools obtain the EkoSkola Green Flag award. The main challenges are ensuring the program is process-focused rather than product-focused, increasing networking between schools, and defining the role of EkoSkola teachers as supporters rather than leaders
