2. 1st Trimester (1 – 3 Months)
Month 1:
1
• During the first month of pregnancy the egg is
normally fertilized within 24-48 hours. The single
fertilized cell begins to rapidly divide and at this
point in time is called a zygote. Between days 7-10
from fertilization implantation usually occurs.
• The Umbilical cord, amniotic sac, and yolk are
beginning to form. At the end of the month your
baby is 2mm long. Size of a rice for the early stages
of development.

• The embryo is officially a fetus
• All of the fetus organs are forming, including external
structures
• Fingers and toes begin to form, while the leg grows longer
• Sex organs are forming, but not enough to identify the
gender
• Eyes move forward while eyelids begin to form
• Fetus is 1 inch long and weighs less than 1/8 of an ounce

• By the end of this month the fetus is fully formed.
• Other features start to grow, like the nails of the
fingers, and toes
• The beginning of the teeth, circulatory system, the
liver, and the reproductive organs

6. 2nd Trimester (4 – 6 Months)
Month 4:
• Teeth and bones become denser
• Baby can suck his/her thumb, yawn, stretch, and make faces
• The reproductive organs and genitalia are fully developed
• Now you can determine if you are having a boy or girl
• Heartbeats are audible through Doppler
• Baby is now 6 inches and 4 ounces

Month 5:
• The baby is more active
• Eyebrows, eyelashes, finger nails, and toenails have
formed
• The baby can hear and swallow
• The baby is about 6 inches and weighs 9 ounces

Month 7:

• Responds to stimuli, including sound, pain, and light
