1. Summer Tasks - Graphics
1.) READ. Use the time between now and starting the course to get to know the
recommended books really well. It will allow you to hit the ground running.
2.) Compile a scrapbook that is made exclusively of found typography.
3.) Invent a game.
4.) Create an autobiographical comic of your holiday.
5.) Write down everything you eat/ consume for a week and then illustrate it.
6.) Take a worthless object. Using your graphic design skills improve it and sell it for a
profit on ebay. Document the process.
7.) Come up with a mantra that you could tell yourself every day and make a banner.
Document.
8.) Find an example of bad design, explain why you don’t like it. Make it into a good
piece of design.
9.) Imagine your bedroom is a hotel. Design an ad for it and market it.
10.) Make a visual response to an exhibition that you have visited or a book you have
read.
11.) Make a time capsule about all the things you like about design. Burry it. Dig it up at
the end of the holiday. Document it.
12.) Listen to something and represent it either through colour OR type OR symbols.
13.) Select an inexpensive material (e.g. from poundshop or found) and send the day only
using that material to create a piece of work
14.) Do a design operation in the style of Michael Bierut that you are capable of repeating
every day. Do it every day for a 100 days.
15.) Go to two exhibitions in Central London. Document them visually. Write a short
article about one of them. (500 words)
