The past two
summers I worked for a
general contracting
company, Morelock
Ross, where I worked
directly under a Super-
intendent and worked
closely with the
different trades,
architects, and clients
during and after the
construction phase. I
learned how safety,
communication, and
the translation of
architectural drawings
are interpreted and
actually built in the
physical environment.

During my time at
Morelock Ross, I worked on
three apartment buildings,
a clubhouse, an event
space, two warehouses,
two infill projects, an ac-
counting firm, a church,
an urgent care center, a
Biolife donation center, a
renovation for a grocery
store, and a small gym. I
learned how wall types,
structural elements, and
codes are implemented
into the structure along
with plumbing, MEP, gas
lines, phone lines, and
sewage water are all
pertained to. My
responsibilities included
supervising certian sites,
taking care of
materialdeliveries, making
sure the specific safety
requirements were met,
working with the
architect and the client,
carrying out
communication with the
trades as well as
organize schedules and
meetings for approvals.

The site was chosen to
be placed between
Big Eleven lake and
Waterway park as an
attempt to
reconnect the two
sites and re-engage
Waterway Drive that
runs north and south.

A healthy campus involves many things
that include bike paths, green
infrastructure, campus gardens,
recreation centers, and proper use and
disposal of water. The way I
incorporated that into my project was
through creating a roof garden,
recycled water shed from the roof and
deposited into the bioswale and the use
of recycled materials in the structure. In
addition to these components the
addition of a Futsol field was
implemented into the project to
promote physical health.

6. Environmentally friendly, the project
was designed to leave a zero-footprint
in Kansas City Kansas. With help from
large North facing windows, bioswales,
and reclaimed materials, the building is
meant to act as an influence on future
projects in the area.

The design for the program layout
was to place all the produce and
food on the main level along with
the shipping and receiving, and
thecafe. On the second floor is
where the classrooms and demo
kitchen are. The classrooms were
place in accordance with being
able to have a clear view of Big
Eleven Lake to the north. The
farmers market is the
exstention or arm-like piece that
extends out from the main
structure.

The bathrooms consisted of a core
that houses the plumbing and
chase space that allows easy ac-
cess to the plumbing while also
keeping it hidden from the public
eye. This was done with the verti-
cal siding that would
create the exterior facade.
Specifically, the chase door and
entrance doors were my area
of the project to develope. The
chase door was also covered with
the
cladding but allowed full access
to the chase.

The Youth Sports Complex was in need of a bath-
room that required no electricity and has maximum
ventilation throughout the space. The client asked
for a structure that could be easily replicated
throughout Lawrence and would be used on golf
courses and other facilities.

The chase door consisted of
a 4’x4’ metal frame covered
with treated ACQ board and
was finished with the exterior
cladding to help incorporate
the door into the facade
without it being noticable
by the public but still grant-
ed easy access to anyone
needing to enter the chase
plumbing.






aquarium competition
Designing the building in-
volved incorporating the con-
text of the park and the city
and creating one space. The
ground floor reflects the park
atmosphere while the second
floor mimicks the feeling of the
busy city. The begining process
of designing an aquarium and
park started with conceptual
designs of how the park and
building would interact with
each other. By
analyzing the context of
Queens and cultures that in-
habit it, the solution to design-
ing the site was simple; create
a space where the people of
New York could
exprience all of Queens in one
space.

14. aquarium competition
We created a new and different
composition of the normal expe-
rience of New York based on the
culture and context of Queens. The
intimate park environment and fast
paced city atmosphere were in-
corporated into the design of the
aquarium, park, and plaza featur-
ing intimate views to the
Manhattan skyline. In the aquar-
ium we reflected the intimacy of
the park in the first floor and the fast
pace of the city in the second floor.
By taking components of the urban
context and establishing one pub-
lic, communal place, our design
offers a new way of enjoying the
site by allowing you to define your
own experience.

The master plan incorporates all the aspects
of th e site including the new water front
system that was purposed as an extension to
the site. Each Part of the site is an acknowl-
edgement to to the context of Queens such
as the public parks, the art districts, and the
city as a whole. The focus was to create a
space where all the aspects of Queens and
the city could be enjoyed in one space cre-
ating a composition of a larger system grant-
ing ease of commute from place to place.
Along with offering a space that contained
all the aspects of Queens, we purposed a
new connection on the waterfront system
that would involve a boardwalk with walking
and biking paths all with amazing views to
the Manhattan skyline.
The boardwalk would also act as a small
flooding
barrier suitable for a category 1 hurricane.
