Welcome to FLASHPOINT College Housing Fire Safety Program Demo
What Is NIFAST? NIFAST (The National Institute of Fire and Safety Training) is a company built by fire safety professionals along with providers of commercial life and fire safety services that have decades of fire safety experience. NIFAST was developed to fill the void between existing standards, regulations and codes to reduce the loss of life. Being a for profit company allows us to take business practices into an environment that has been use to non-profit ways of delivering a message without looking for results through a business model. Our Mission The NIFAST mission is to broadly increase fire safety awareness, reduce the risk and number of fires, and thereby reduce loss of life, injury, and property damage through education. We hope to advance this mission through education, training, inspections, and standards development.
For the first time, NIFAST presents a simple, common sense approach that teaches students in-depth fire and burn safety through an easy-to-use, self-paced online course and test called the NIFAST FLASHPOINT College Program. NIFAST: Our Call for Action!
What is the NIFAST FLASHPOINT Program? The FLASHPOINT program is a comprehensive course available on-line to educate students on: FLASHPOINT is designed to help educate students to live fire safe on their own and fill in the gaps of missing information from the fire safety education they received in their youth. Universities that choose to offer the NIFAST FLASHPOINT program demonstrate their commitment to student safety on their campus! ■ How to prevent fires and escape, if one should ever occur ■ Burn safety ■ Fire safety equipment
According to the US Fire Administration’s report on University Housing Fires, from 2005 to 2007: At NIFAST we think these numbers are preventable through knowledge and preparation to first prevent a fire and second to survive the fire if one should occur. ■ An estimated 3,800 university housing fires occurred annually in the United States. ■ An average of 5 students were killed and 50 students injured in university housing fires each year. ■ Annually university housing fires caused an average of $26 million dollars in property damage. Why is Fire Safety Training Needed Now?

Benefits of Using the FLASHPOINT College Housing Fire Safety Course ■ Increases the fire safety profile on campus through educating the student body, thus decreasing the number of fire related instances both on and off campus. ■ Provides the university benchmarks and indicators to understand the level of fire safety knowledge students have. ■ A documented program to include in your annual Higher Education Opportunity Act (Public Law 110-315) fire safety report. ■ Provides an added layer of liability in the event of an incident by having documentation that your university has educated your students on fire safety.
The FLASHPOINT College Housing Fire Safety Course Five Steps to Ensure a FIRE-SAFE STUDENT BODY!
Course Landing Page The FLASHPOINT on-line course and assessment (test) is accessed through a unique IP address that is provided for each university , to capture all of the information and test results for their students. Each unique IP address can be customized with specific information for each university and their residence halls .
Customizable ID Address Program provides any safety information provided by the university for each residence hall location.
■ Students read NIFAST’s instructional content at their own pace. ■ Students access the course and test online and study on their personal computer (including viewing selected video content), or print the material for traditional study. ■ Time commitment is limited, but varies depending on each student’s circumstances. Step 1 - Self Paced Instruction With Self-Paced Instruction:
FLASHPOINT Program – Test Curriculum
A preview of the new chapter we recently completed and will be adding to our College Housing Fire Safety course. FLASHPOINT Program – Test Curriculum
Step 2 - Online Assessment The FLASHPOINT assessment (test): Incorrect answers are followed by a “mini-lesson” explaining the correct answer. The auto-correction feedback permits immediate and reinforced learning, and sets the stage for mastery of the subject. ■ Covers all of the life-saving content in NIFAST’s course. ■ Consists of 50 questions that are randomly selected from our test bank of 350 questions, so no two tests are the same.
FLASHPOINT Program – Test Questions SAMPLE
FLASHPOINT Program – Incorrect Answers The answer cannot be changed at this time, but the idea is that the student will learn what the correct answer is, which will help them retain the fire safety information they are learning and help them to live fire safe.
Step 3 - Grade Assessment The program provides instant results: ■ Upon assessment (test) completion, students are notified immediately if they passed. ■ Non-passing students who did not receive a score over 75 percent, are directed back to the curriculum page and given the opportunity to take the assessment (test) again.
FLASHPOINT Program – Student Results Page
Step 4 - Recognize Success When students pass the assessment (test), the program: ■ Generates a customized “Course Completion Certificate” for immediate download. ■ Captures an electronic signature from the student, providing proof for the university that each of their students have completed a fire safety education and training program.
FLASHPOINT Program – Certificate of Completion
Step 5 – Delivers Test Data The FLASHPOINT program organizes data into useful powerful reports and makes them available to the university at any time via their back end log-in and includes: ■ Student Name ■ How many times each student attempted course ■ If student opened curriculum and how long they had it open ■ Exam Score ■ Indicator categories, colored coded for easy recognition of the students understanding. ■ Time and date student took exam ■ Total average passing scores for each exam attempt The course results provide by the FLASHPOINT program enables universities, to confirm who has achieved certification, thus enabling the tracking of overall progress and confirmation of mastery of the program.
