Innovation in Ford Leadership Company
Ford company was lead by Henry ford in 1903 and it was first inspired by 28000$
from 12 investors. After that till 1919 all the investors got their money with profit
back. And John S Gray was first president of the company Ford Motors. He remained
there for three years and died in 1906. After him 12 CEOs served the Ford Company.
After that Mr. Ford became the 2nd president of the Ford Motor Company. After
many hardships and troubles Ford Motor Company completed its first model T in
1908. This car was an instant achievement and considerable improvement was done
by the engineers in this model from the previous. This model sold out for nineteen
years and more than fifteen millions models. Ford Company started urban
revolution by its cars. After that Ford Company at last reached to its model A. It was
launched with more power, luxury and colors. But soon by the increase in demands
of the people this model ran out. After that in 1932 company for the first time in
history made a car having V-8 engine block in one piece. This car became the dream
of the Americans because of its power and luxuriousness. In 1938 company started
on the Mercury which was the entry of the Ford in medium price growing field. Ford
Company served Americans in 2nd War as well. After that Henry Ford II became the
president. At that time company was losing several million dollars a month and its
situation were critical. Just like his grandfather he tackled many difficulties. He
aroused the company from a family to modern publicity owned corporation. He
restored the company’s health by his war reorganization and expansion plan
rapidly. He brought the talented people into the leadership with his unique ability to
find talent and made his way to the success. In 1954 company released the
Thunderbird model. This model was exposed to public with many features. In 1958
Ford publicized its entry in heavy vehicle market and in 1959 created its 50
millionth vehicle. On 7th April 1964 Ford changed the history of auto industry by
giving the first and very different type of the car The Ford Mustang. This model
released with new shape and had youth touch in it. After that Ford Motor Company
made his way up to the top and acquired many of the auto mobiles companies.
After that Ford was served by several CEOs and in 2006 Mulally named as the
president and CEO of the Ford Motor Company. Ford was not in the leadership
position when Mulally said his Lexus LS430 the finest car of the world just before
the Ford was about to publicize his selection as CEO. As a CEO he took many
innovative decisions for Ford Motors Company. Like he faced criticism first decision
made by the Mulally was to bring back the Taurus nameplate. Because it was the
company’s best seller until losing grounds in late 1990s. In 2006 Mulally borrowed
US$23.6 billion by mortgaging all of Ford assets. Mulally said that he plan to finance
an overhaul major project by that money and to make available a cushion for any
kind of emergency. That loan was considered as a mark of desperation but
extensively credited after automotive crisis 2008-2009. After that crisis Ford was
the only automotive company with stabilized financial condition judged against to
other competitors General Motors and Chrysler, both of them gone bankrupt after
that crisis. William Clay Ford praised Alan as well for his decisions. Ford received
only US$2.3 billion on the sale in 2001 under command of Jacques Nasser. It was
less than what they paid for it to Nasser. The sale of the Jaguar Land Rover
consequently dropped because of high oil prices in summer causing TATA to
request British government to bailout. In 2009 due to his innovative ideas in Ford
he made his way to the Time 100 list. Mulally gave Ford Motor Company a new
innovative track to follow, which is One Ford idea. This slogan can be explained as to
produce the cars for both American and European markets. General Motors also
inspired by this idea. It still is difficult to full fill choice of each and everyone but this
One Ford plan made this to easy. Like Europeans are buying cars having space
which is one of the foundation of American buyers. One Ford idea was launched by
the Mulally in 2008 and at that time it was too innovative for the Ford to made his
way to success. Ford planned again to produce Mustang. By this its sale increased
very well. Ford in Palo Alto opening a new research and Innovation Centre. In this
Ford will hire almost 125 people to research and focus on the technologies of the
future in automobile industry like autonomous driving, human machine interface,
big data and smart mobility. Ford is hiring most of the new people to research and
some of the employees will come from the headquarters and Dragos Macuica a
former Apple engineer with having penalty of experience in aerospace,
semiconductors manufacturing. In Silicon Valley Ford will get one of the largest
team by this Research and Innovation Center.
Now a day’s due to sharing economy almost everyone don’t want to own car.
If someone need the car than he can just hire it for his work and then return it. By
this he doesn’t has to pay for the repairing or for the insurance of the car. So Ford is
working on this project in new Innovation Center. The new car for this purpose
should with enough space but at the same time it shouldn’t be so big like bus that
people feel like a crowded elevator. Ford is working on something between taxi and
bus so that passengers should travel with no trouble.
But Ford is just not thinking about just manufacturing and selling vehicles.
But it is also thinking about how they can offer people more than Uber and Lyft
offer. And thinking about the future transportation system as well. Ford calls its plan
“Dynamic Social Shuttle”. There are many applications on which Ford is working or
researching. Ford is working on many innovative ideas right now. Like Ford is
planning to give their customers Minivan in exchange of Mustang for the weekends
and when they are done they can return it back. Ford is also working on
autonomous cars. The CEO of the Company claims that within five years we will see
the autonomous cars on the roads but in specific areas only. Right now Ford
Company have launched semiautomatic cars with GPS and parking helping tools but
soon there will be a fully automatic car. These cars will be able to collect data up to
25 gigabytes per hour. Ford is also working on GPS and on same technology so that
it can help people finding parking space. Ford is also finding that how it can utilize
this system on other kind of transport and even on cycling. Ford is also researching
to make autonomous boat by this technology.
Fords long term program is their commitment they have to their One Ford
plan. Ford expects that by 2020 that Ford Credit and all other five automotive
businesses will add to company. Today Ford is expanded in many countries. As it
continues expanding in new regions ford is planning to achieve all of it goals on
global scale and to full fill the demands of the customers from all over the world.
And by 2020 Fords breakeven point will be two third of it whole sale volume. Ford
expects managed receivables to increase by 50 percent from now. Ford is planning
to grow faster in volume as well as in revenue till 2020. Ford has to achieve
operating margin of about 8 percent till 2020 and in long term plan from 8 to 9
percent. Ford is planning to make this world a better place and till 2020 there are
many goals set by the Ford to achieve and is focusing on its One Ford plan. Company
aiming total shareholders returns that position in the top quartile of its peer group.
Ford anticipated global sales to triple to approximately 300,000 as brand debut in
China and enlarges market coverage by 2020. Ford is expecting its sale to be
increased through all over the world like from 16.8 million to 17.5 million in U. In
Europe sales are expected between 14.8 million to 15.3 million. And in china from
24 million to 26 million. Fords vision and innovative ideas by its leadership are just
great. And its leadership believes that till 2020 Ford credit and all other five auto
mobile business will contribute to the total revenue of the Ford.
