Chapter 9: Diversity and Communication- Making Relationships…
According to the dictionary, the word diversity means; the state or fact of being diverse,
different, unlikeness. In my opinion, is how different we the people could be from each other.
1. What is cultural competence? How can you develop it?
- Is a society that consists of people from a multitude of countries and cultural
background.
- We can develop it by following the 5 Actions that the book talks to us about and these
are:
Action 1: Value Diversity
Action 2: Identify and evaluate personal perceptions and attitudes
Action 3: Be aware of what happens when culture interacts
Action 4: Build cultural knowledge
Action 5: Adapt to diverse cultures
2. How can you communicate effectively?
- Spoken communication that is clear promotes success at school and work or in
personal relationships. Communicating effectively can lead you to bigger things and
open lots of doors on your future. According to the book, we can communicate
effectively by; Adjusting to communication styles, Know how to give and take
criticism, and Understand body language.
3. How can you make the most of personal relationships?
- I understand that having a good and positive personal relationship with our family,
friends, classmates, professors, partner, and even those around us can keep your mind
open and ready to study. It can lead you to success and also motivate you to keep
doing your best in everything you do. By fallowing the following steps will make you
do the most of personal relationships. These are; Using positive relationship
strategies, Plug into communication technology without losing touch, Manage
conflict, Manage anger, and Avoiding destructive relationships.
