- Overview: Cisco’s BioMed NAC solution automates device assignments to controlled zones on the hospital network (wired or wireless connectivity) providing patient-centric benefits. Continue to monitor the behavior of these devices – quarantine a device if not behaving properly. Scenario : Couple arrives at hospital with husband complaining of breathing problems. They meet with physician who decides the patient needs a ventilator. ( CLICK ) CLICK Doctor seeks a ventilator to assist in breathing but only one available in occupied room but its not being used. Doctor wishes to move patient into unused room and move ventilator to patient. Prior to BioMed NAC there could be a delay in provisioning the ports in the new room to accept the device. CLICK In this case with BioMed NAC, patient doctor and ventilator are all able to move to unused room and the doctor is able to call up the patients EMR with wireless device. CLICK Since this hospital has the BioMed NAC solution implement, the in-room ports self-provision to accept the device and are interchangeable. If a guest needs to access the network for guest services and does not have wireless access, the ports in the room can self-provision for their laptop access also. Benefits: Leverages existing hospital infrastructure Reduces overall operating expense (traditionally, commissioning in-room ports to accept different devices took time and labor.) Improves the quality of patient care (more timely delivery of care giving.)
- State of Missouri – This case Study focuses on the benefits of the State wide integration project of 1,000 facilities. The largest integration project of its kind involves creating 24/7 real-time connectivity to the multiple legacy control systems, power generation assets, power distribution systems, metering, chiller and steam plants that keep 28 million square feet of facilities safe, productive and comfortable for the citizens and employees of the State. Asset/Maintenance Management (projected 40% savings) Real-time integration of all facilities with Asset Management Automated Work Orders State wide Alarm management Pfizer - Building Systems Integration helped the Sandwich Pfizer Campus safe more than 15% annually on maintenance cost and 5% in energy savings. Pfizer connected 70 buildings or 4M SF of R&D and manufacturing space over one converged IP network. With this, the equalized the controls of more than 70,000 automation points and with this reduced complexity of operations, provided consistency of data formats, and now is able to operate its campus with a centralized control system. Pfizer continues to see the benefits as they build new buildings and renovate old facilities and are now able to plug and play non-proprietary automation systems into the converged network.
- Overview : Cisco Mobile Care Nurse Connect facilitates collaboration among mobile caregivers and patients, enabling them to reach each other and to be reached no matter where they are — for faster patient care from any location. Scenario: The patient presses a Nurse Connect Button from their bedside. A notification is automatically sent directly to the caregiver assigned to that patient or room on their Cisco IP Phone; a text message appears on their phone stating that the Nurse Connect Button has been activated; for example “ Nurse Call Room 302” At that point the nurse is given options (1) Acknowledge the message; (2) Escalate the message if they are unable to respond to it; (3) Call the Patient; or (4) Allow message to roll-over to next nurse. CLICK If they hit Acknowledge on the phone they can also choose to call Room 302 and speak with the patient to see what they need. Or they can just walk to the patient’s room if they are nearby. If they choose the alternate, to Escalate the message, it is then sent to the next caregiver or caregivers determined by settings in the system. The message will continue to be sent until the Nurse Connect button is reset. Business Benefits: Immediate response to patient call requests from anywhere in the hospital (20% reduction in response time) Provides the ability to assemble specialty teams rapidly Less time & resources required to fulfill requests (Gives time back to staff for their primary function) Less disturbance by eliminating overhead pages (85% reduction in overhead paging) Also: Patient requests are sent directly to the responsible caregiver saving time in communication of a request. The request does not just go to the central nurse station and then need to be dispatched from there. It goes directly to the nurse no matter where he or she is. It also allows the nurse to call and speak to the patient to understand their need before they go to the patient’s room, thus potentially saving a trip to the room to determine the need, leaving the room to fulfill the need and then going back to the room to finish the request. It eliminates overhead pages to direct a nurse to go to a patient room, cutting down on unnecessary noise.

Scenario: An physician orders lab work with critical value thresholds definitions, such as blood count, cholesterol level, etc. to the technologist. Once Lab results are ready, they are sent out through Cisco CUAE with results prioritized and business rules defined in the Laboratory Information System determine where the results are to be sent ( CLICK ) In this case they are sent to ordering physician who contacts nurse ( CLICK ) with results and follow-up instruction. CLICK Nurse provides required care and the patient record is updated Benefits: Critical and non-critical steps in the care process are determined much quicker. - Different than others who have a one-size-fits-all mentality, we offer a full suite of WebEx meeting applications. Meeting Center serves a wide variety of general collaboration needs, while the other centers are tailored to specific business processes. As you can imagine, providing remote support 1-on-1 is very different than delivering training in an online classroom, or hosting a company all-hands meeting online…even though the same technology is at the foundation. Your users get best-in-breed solutions—and you get the advantages of standardizing across your organization. Note to field: Most often enterprise customers subscribe to the full suite, so users across the org have access to all the applications, and can use the right one for their needs. A sales organization, for example, might use Meeting Center or Sales Center to make sales presentations and demonstrate applications—and also use Training Center to deliver training to the field. Similarly, an IT organization might use Support Center to manage helpdesk requests, and Training Center when there’s a new software rollout and they need to train users. Through open APIs, these real-time meeting applications are easily integrated with the transactional applications of the process…such as the LMS system used for training or the help-desk ticket system used for support. Integrated audio across services is also a key differentiator. Having single access to both the web and audio portion of a session makes scheduling, starting, and joining sessions much easier—and the session host has full control of audio activity from within the meeting environment.

- Cisco Quad brings all of the social capabilities we talked about earlier to the Enterprise: Develop & manage personal online profiles: People can develop and manage personal online profiles to share information about who they are, what they’re working on, what expertise they have, how they like to be reached, what their interests are, and any number of other things On their profile pages, people can post documents or presentations that they’ve been working on so that others can download them without waiting for the owner to email them. Easily create, publish, share, consume content and expertise: With built in wikis, blogging capabilities, and granular posting capabilities that enable users to control where things are published, content creation and organization is made easy. Integration with Cisco Show and Share enables users to easily create, publish, share and consume video content as easily (if not easier) than text. Dynamically form and participate in virtual communities: Build your own communities around anything from the development of a new product to a new sales opportunity to any other kind of project team Control how people participate in the communities: restricted access, invite only, anyone can participate, etc. Have a community wiki so that people can collaboratively edit content without worrying about version control---single source of the truth Have a community blog that represents the whole community so that people outside the community can subscribe to it and get updates on what’s been happening. Eventually, we will build real-time video support into communities so that globally dispersed teams can login to the community, and work together in a virtual room. Subscribe to trusted content sources or people: Now end-users can let information and expertise find them by subscribing to just about anything---they can subscribe to a community (for example, a sales leader might want to subscribe to the feed of the new community that was built around a given opportunity), they can subscribe to another person who is an expert in a related field, or they can subscribe to internal news feeds much in the same way that people subscribe to external news feeds today. These are just some of the social collaboration capabilities that Cisco Quad has to offer… Transition: But, as we discussed up front, an Enterprise Social Software solution needs to incorporate much more than social collaboration..

- Connected Real Estate starts with the foundation, the information utility, or the next generation building information network. In addition to the plumbing, piping, and wiring in your building, we now add an IP network to the fabric of a building. Not much unlike the other utilities, we lay the groundwork to design and install systems that will interact with and communicate over this one network. This secure, flexible, and scalable network reduced your CAPEX by replacing the disparate networks for the communications, security, and building automation systems. The key deliverable with this new infrastructure is CONNECTITY. The new network connects to people and building and/or physical security systems—both within or outside the building—and with other buildings in a portfolio. As we tie all these systems over an IP network, everything and everybody can now be accessed over the Internet. Study shows that for an average 8-story office building in North America, based on a $150 per SF cost, the cost for this infrastructure is nearly neglect-able compared to the other established utilities in our building. In this case, we have seen cost ranging from $1.50 to $2.50 per square foot as compared to $15 or more per square foot for the water utility. - In healthcare, we believe the most important person is the patient and we see a number of benefits that can be gained from the combination of Connected Real Estate with a Medical-Grade Network on patients – this is what we call a Smart Healthcare Facility solution.
- It can all start from the first encounter at the entrance of the hospital. Cities around the world are increasingly challenged with needing to support a wide variety of languages for their citizens and visitors. In this example, we show how remote language translation services can be used to welcome and orient patients in their own language.
- Since we introduced electrical wiring in buildings 125 years ago, we have seen the application and use of the electrical grid exponentially grown. In addition to “just lighting”, we now use the same infrastructure for powering devices that we 100 years ago didn’t even know would exist. Coffee makers, electrical shavers, computers, television, etc…all inventions that have been launched to improve the quality of our lives that are fully enabled by the 125 year old invention. By this logic we can argue that we won’t know what is coming, but that we recognize the importance of our powerful IP network. And the first signs of innovative applications are already visible and installed around the world. For instance…we can IP enable bathroom fixtures that now automatically will dispatch the maintenance staff when there is no more toilet paper, soap, or when the bathrooms are dirty. Don’t forget, after spaces being too hot or too cold, the cleanliness of bathrooms is the 2 nd most complaint space about. Muzak is an IP-enabled music system that can now push out any kind of music to any speaker in the building. For hospitals, you can have spa-like music of your liking played in any configuration speakers you want---and all this with a simple web-interface. You can have different music playing in a children’s ward, the cafeteria and lobbies. Scent Air provides selected fragrances to commercial and public spaces. The fragrance will enhance the experience and lessen the sterile smell of a hospital floor. You can also pump different smells into the waiting areas and lobby. The system can be plugged into any open slot on your IP network or connected through the wireless infrastructure, and will be operated by authorized users from any PC, laptop, or handheld device. And last, of many more innovative IP solutions, Tridonic…an LED lighting system that can light up your buildings, facades or water treatments with simple programming from your laptop. Hospitals are now building facilities that have impressive facades and internal spa-like appearances. These lighting displays can enhance the curb appeal of the facility In other words, with IP as the new utility in buildings, we not only help your customer immediately improve the bottom line and create an already more intelligent environment, we also have given them an infrastructure that enables them to continue to transform the experience of the spaces that that they provide. Lead the experience…and lead your customer to true 21 st century buildings and future-ready environments.
- Patient can control their environment – Staff will waste 60% of their day taking care of I’m hot, I’m cold, It’s too bright, It’s too dark, draw the blinds, I want the TV. With automated systems and self service, the nurses can come back to bedside for true clinical support and improved patient response and care. It also allows for improved productivity because of this self service capability. The network has a direct impact on the productivity of the nursing staff. Leveraging UC and our partner community and the Information Utility, it all becomes automated.
- Overview: Cisco’s TelePresence for Healthcare solution provides patients and care givers with opportunities to consult and collaborate with specialists no matter the location, improving patient care and saving travel cost Scenario: A patient visits their primary care doctor after tests have come back showing shown irregularities in blood work, with the initial diagnosis falling outside the knowledge of the primary care doctor. CLICK The doctor recommends that the patient consult with a very skilled specialist on the subject who happens to be located at a clinic in another city. With this being an initial diagnosis, the primary care doctor suggests that they utilize their Cisco TelePresence solution to save time and money on travel. CLICK Patient, primary doctor and specialist engage in a TelePresense meeting, whereby this “in-person” collaboration enhances patient care by providing real-time discussion of the potential diagnosis and further clinical needs. In this case, the patient has access to “specialist” care and knowledge, all from the comfort of their primary care givers office. Benefits: Real-time "in person“ collaboration between doctors, patients, and specialists Make clinical decisions faster, improving patient care and outcomes Reduce travel costs and time for patients, doctors and specialists Make the healthcare ecosystem "greener" by using technology more effectively and traveling less Provides a collaboration tool for researchers, medical institutions, and higher education
- Drugstores and other companies in the private sector (such as Wal-Mart, CVS, and Walgreens in the U.S., and Boots and Tesco in the U.K.) already provide limited healthcare services, such as cholesterol checks and diabetes screening. The Cisco HealthPresence solution lets them expand these options, providing true healthcare services. A Cisco HealthPresence unit, staffed by a licensed medical professional, can be installed at the retailer site for easy access to a qualified medical professional. The Cisco HealthPresence solution gives retailers a way to service nursing homes more effectively. Using a Cisco HealthPresence unit installed at the nursing home, the retailer can renew prescriptions or periodically check on patients with chronic illnesses. The patient doesn’t need to travel to the store, and care can be more continuous. The Cisco HealthPresence unit, staffed by a licensed medical professional, keeps overhead low. Retailers may also be interested in mobile units, mounted on motor vehicles, which give the Cisco HealthPresence solution the ability to move from area to area for roving care. This special configuration is available on a case-by-case basis.
