IEMA Approved 'Introduction to auditing environmental behaviour change

RE: IEMA Approved ‘Introduction to auditing and evaluating environmental behaviour
change’
Green Impact is an environmental accreditation scheme that encourages and celebrates pro-
environmental behaviours within universities and colleges, students’ unions and community
organisations. It empowers sustainability champions within their workplace, helping them gain
recognition for their environmental efforts, whilst playing on the competitive spirit of staff working
in teams. The results are organisation-wide awareness of environmental issues, procedures and
policies alongside great scope for supporting change and shared good practice. The outcomes are
reduced organisational energy and water consumption, reduced carbon emissions, greater levels of
recycling and compliant waste segregation but also an engaged, motivated workforce who are
more aware of environmental issues and motivated to act upon this awareness in an
environmentally responsible manner both at work and at home.
As part of Green Impact, all departments who take part have to be audited. Melissa Wint
volunteered to train and act as a volunteer auditor during the 2014-15 Green Impact scheme at
the University of Leeds. They took part in the IEMA approved ‘Introduction to auditing and
evaluating environmental behaviour change’.
The training covered environmental issues in the workplace relating to energy use, waste
management, ethical procurement and sustainable transport. It also developed professional
auditing, analytical and relationship building skills.
Following the training, Melissa Wint conducted an audit on behalf of the Sustainability Service at
the University of Leeds. We were impressed with the professional manner in which the audit was
conducted, the speed with which the results were reported and are very grateful for her time.
