This document describes a 3D risk training simulation called Virtual Construction Yards that was presented at a NATO workshop. The simulation was created to address a client's needs to reduce training costs, increase participation and learning performance, and enable new learning methods. It allows users like construction workers, architects, and safety specialists to safely find, evaluate, and respond to hazards in a virtual environment. An experiment testing 800 learners found that the 3D simulation led to 50% lower learning times, 32% better retention of complex procedures after 30 days, and 35% lower test failure rates compared to standard training. The company estimates it saved over €90,000 in costs for training 800 students in one year.
