Here we have an exclusive interview with Olivia Berry!
Q “When did you realise that you could sing?”
A “From what I can remember I was 8 years old, and my mum was recording a Christmas video for
the whole family, we had Christmas songs playing on the radio and ‘silent night’ came on, because I
knew the song quiet well I started singing it, I remember my whole family stopped what they were
doing and just listened to me, that’s when I realised that I could sing and my family knew it as well.”
Q “When did you start taking singing seriously?”
A “At the age of 11-12 I started to make videos of me singing songs and publishing them on
YouTube. I didn’t realise that I would become so popular because of it. Each video was gaining over 3
million views, from there is when I realised I wanted to be a singer and put all of my effort in it.”
Q “Did you ever think you would become so successful?”
A “To be honest no, when I was making videos on YouTube I was doing it for fun simply because I
enjoyed singing. I didn’t think that it would make me so successful. It really is a dream come true.
Where I am now in life really is a blessing, I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for my family
and friends, supporting me throughout my career.”
Q “Was it hard growing up as a child with all the fame that you were under in?”
A “Yes, people seem to think that becoming so famous at the age of 13 – 14 is a great thing where in
reality it really isn’t. I was home schooled, so it meant that I couldn’t go to school. I always missed
my friends, of course they could visit me but I wanted to see them every day. Where ever I go there
was always paparazzi’s, it never made it easy for me and my family to have a normal day out
together. I think anyone who becomes famous at the same age that I did would find it very difficult
to have a normal social life. Despite all this, I got over it. The thing that I focused on the most was
singing, singing was where I took out most of my struggles and hardships in life”
Q “What has been the best achievement of your life so far?”
A “I think so far the best achievement in my life was breaking the record most sales in a single day
for a music album, when I heard that I couldn’t believe it at first, I broke down crying because I was
that shocked”
Q “What advice can you give to young artists who want to make it in the music industry?”
A “My advice for young artists who want do well is just simply work hard on your music, but not too
hard, I think it’s important to have fun as well, when you work hard to an extent you tend to get
stressed and being stressed isn’t what you want when it comes to making music, so my advice is just
have fun”
Q “What are you looking forward to in the future of your career?”
2. A “In general I’m looking forward to working with more artists, I’m looking forward to producing
more songs, I’m looking forward to writing more songs but I think the most thing that I am looking
forward to is travelling around the world. Ever since I was a kid, the main thing that I wanted to do
besides singing is travelling the world. It used to be a personal dream of mine that one day I wanted
to fulfil. Also, I think I want to live in America. It’s always been a dream of mine and I think I can
make it happen, but of course I will bring my family with me, because without them I am nothing”
Q “Who inspired you to sing?”
A “that’s a very good question. To me the main person that inspired me to sing is my mum. In my
opinion my mum to me has the best voice that I have ever heard. As a kid I always use to make her
sing to me, before I sleep, when I’m sad and pretty much whenever I asked. Because my dad died
when I was around 4 or 5 I was sad nearly every day during my childhood and like I said my mum
sang to me whenever I was sad and to me that was very special and is what inspired me to sing. My
mum is my real inspiration, we have been through a lot together and without her I wouldn’t be
where I am now.”
Q “I know it’s a silly question but, was it hard growing without a father?
A “it is, like I said most of the time I’m sad, even now I am. The thing that got to me was growing up
you tend to see other kids with their mums and dads. I always used to get jealous of other kids,
because as a child that’s what you wanted, to have a whole family. Me and my mum both struggled
but in a way we had each other, being a lonely child I think made it harder for me, I’ve always
wanted a little brother or a sister but it just wasn’t meant to be and I’m okay with it.
Q “Lastly, will we see more albums and songs in general being released in the future?”
A “Yes, oh god yes. I am currently working on a handful of songs that I will be releasing within the
next couple of months, I’m not allowed to say anything, I wish I could but the one thing that I can say
is that It will come out this autumn around October, so just keep an eye out for that.”
