• Everyone must sing the Japanese
National Anthem, known as Kimigayo,
facing Japan

3. • Everyone is forced to learn Japanese
• They also expand Propaganda to affect the
people’s thought in order to increase the
faithfulness of the people
• They managed the publications of the
newspaper to put news inside the newspaper
that the Japanese like They renamed the
Straits Times to the Syonan Sinbun
• They managed social medias like the
broadcasting stations and the cinemas. The
Japanese only allow the people to watch movies
in the Japanese-controlled broads casting

inappropriate broadcasting stations will be

5. Economically
• The Japanese Occupation caused the
disruption of Singapore’s entrepot trade.
This caused a shortage of food.
• The other resources are controlled to the
other parts of the world for the support for
the Japanese war effort
• The Japanese present Food Rationing to
help solve the problems of the shortage of
food.

ration cards before they can buy their daily
necessities like rice,salt etc. at the distribution
center.
• Because of this, it caused many people to
suffer from malnutrition because there is
limited food for them to eat
• The Food Rationing also cause people o
open black markets where they will sell the
goods that the Japanese don’t approve
• The black markets sold food that are
expensive. Only rich people can buy them

serial number. This cause them to lo lower
the value of the notes and it cause people
to be poor

8. Political
• After Japanese possessed the Japanese,it
was renamed to ‘Syonan-to’ which means
the light of the South or the Radiant South
• The Japanese military police, the
Kempeitai were asked to restore the
peace and order in Singapore.
• They threatened the people using fear so
that they will obey them. This caused
people to be living uneasily because the
minor offences could give them serious
punishment

9. • Those who have anti-Japanese
sentiments would be tortured in the
Kempeitai centers
• The European Prisoners of War were
forced to work on the Thailand’s Death
Railway. Many of them died out of
tiredness and disease
• The Japanese promised the Malays and
the Indians to give them freedom from the
British to win over the support of them but
those who obeyed their orders were also

10. • The Europeans are treated as their threats
and put them in prisoners camp
• The Chinese were also treated as their
threats as they defended China when the
Japanese invaded China. Tan Kah Kee,
the leader of the local Chinese had
rejected the Japanese goods and tried
opposing the Japanese. This caused the
Chinese to be fined $50000000 as a form
of punishments

11. • The Japanese carried out the Sook Ching
which was a mass screening process. This is
to scan and identify the Chinese who had the
anti-Japanese sentiments
• All Chinese man, with the age range of 18 to
50 must report to the interrogation center at
the YMCA building and the Central Police
Station to be examined by the Japanese
• Informers who were hoods, paper bags or
mask would be pointed out as the anti-
Japanese suspects and would be killed at the

formed the anti-Japanese groups. There are
2 main groups formed, the Malayan People
Anti-Japanese Army and the Force 136
• The Malayan People’s Anti-Japanese Army
consist of the Malayan Communist Party.
They will carry out the sudden attacks on the
Japanese soldiers in the jungles
• Force 136 consist of the British. They
recruited people and will secretly send them
to India for their trainings. They will gather
