3. A small part of his life...
Luther King studied Theology at Boston University, and
already by 1954 he was a Baptist minister in charge of a
church in the city of Montgomery, Alabama.
Since he was young, King became aware of the situation
of social and racial segregation that black people lived in
his country.
4. What did he do to be considered a
hero?
• He fought for the defense of civil rights through peaceful means,
inspired by the figure of Gandhi and civil disobedience theory of
Henry David Thoreau.
• Martin´s first major achievement was the Montgomery Bus
Boycott in 1955 because of a poor black woman named Rosa
Parks, who was arrested and fined for sitting in the section
reserved for whites on a bus.
• He also got in 1960, the equal access to libreries, lunchrooms and
parking for black people.
• However, it was not until 1963 that his fight reached one of his
major highlights: King led a massive march on Washington in
which about 250.000 people participated. There is where he
announced his speech today titled “I have a dream”, which
expresses being in favor of peace and equality among human
begins.
