- 7. When Should Potty Training Begin?
The majority of children develop the skills they need to begin potty training
around the age of two years but there is no hard and fast rule. The skills required
are both physical and emotional so some infants are ready to begin the process at
around 18 months while others may be closer to three or even four years. This
means that the "right time" to potty train comes down to the readiness of each
individual child.
All children are different and the natural stages of development can vary
enormously from one child to the next, even when they are of a similar age. For
this reason, age is not the deciding factor in terms of when to begin potty training
as "learning" how to transition from diapers to potty is not something that can be
forced. Effective learning can only take place once a child is READY TO LEARN.
