Note that MCSA has a version number in the certification title, and recert is not required. New versioned certification would be released when next version of SQL Server comes out.The MCSA: SQL Server 2012 certification enables DB and BI professionals to acquire essential skills to develop and maintain the next wave of mission critical environments, and sets a foundation for advanced certification. Demonstrate your proficiency in querying to potential hiring managers. CLOUD COMPUTING ultimately allows IT Prosto FOCUS ON MISSION CRITICAL ACTIVITIES for organizations. THIS RAISES THE BAR OF REQUIRED EXPERTISE for IT Professionals. The MCSA SQL Server 2012 validates a DEEPER setof knowledge that is mapped to real-world business context. The MCSE: Business Intelligence certification showcases your expert skills at developing and deploying visually-rich business intelligence solutions and reports. Deliver more data to more people across the organization.Note that the certification title has no version number or product name, but the exam names do. MCSE covers multiple versions and multiple products. Our certifications used to validate that the candidate had the skills and experience with one technology. The truth of the matter is that a candidate called to manage Business Intelligence solutions at work actually works across multiple technologies. In the case of MCSE: BI, we offer a certification that validates that a candidate has the skills and experience with the entire solution, including Sharepoint, SQL Azure, and Excel in addition to SQL Server 2012.Recertification required every three years.Deliver invaluable self-service BI applications (BI Professionals)Future proof your BI expertise with advanced-level BI Professional Certification, your gateway to the skills and techniques to design, build and deploy solutions that deliver more data to more people across the organization.
The MCSE: Data Platform certification demonstrates your expertise at building enterprise-scale data solutions across on-premises or cloud environments. Note that the certification title has no version number or product name, but the exam names do.Recertification required every three yearsExtend your skills beyond traditional database capabilities by earning the MCSE: Data Platform certification.MCSA: SQL Server 2012 is a Pre-requisite certification: validates core technology skills on SQL Server 2012
We did a lot of research as we developed the certifications for SQL Server 2012, including an audience survey that delved into what skill levels people in different roles had for specific tasks and tools. We discovered some pretty interesting stuff. This research was validated through other surveys and research as well, when we determined what the specific objectives should be. this research is the foundation of the decision to combine the DBA/DBD roles from previous certs into the new DB Platform path. As we mentioned earlier when we talked about the MCSA, we identified a set of skills that BI developers, database developers, AND database administrators all needed to be at least minimally proficient at—these are the skills represented in the MCSA: SQL Server 2012. In addition to the skills shared by all three roles, there was a significant overlap between the tasks/tools at which DBAs needed to be proficient, and those at which DBDs needed to be proficient. The skills at which only DBDs were proficient tended to be more pure developer skills, such as .NET development. The skills at which DBAs alone were proficient tended to be ones that will become less frequent as cloud becomes more prevalent. The new MCSE certifications are really forward-looking, and extend beyond the traditional database capabilities.External articles also reflect the evolution of database roles:http://thomaslarock.com/2012/03/5-critical-trends-for-the-data-professional-of-the-future/
Recert proves latest skills in a solution area—which may include a new release of the primary technology or related technologies.Protects your cert from being devalued by those who claim to be certified but do not update their skills. At MCSElevel: no upgrade, only recert. If you stay current today through an upgrade path, then this will feel very similar. At the expert level, you will not need to earn another cert on the new version. You will simply maintain the one you have. When you recertify your MCSE, you’ll also earn the most recent MCSA, if a new version of the MCSA has been released since you first earned your MCSE or since you last recertified. The new expert-level certifications don’t have a version number in the names. This is because they are testing at the solution level and across technologies. For example, we might test skills on multiple versions of a product if that corresponds with what the enterprise environment looks like. By contrast, at the MCSA level, there is no recert, only upgrade, there is a version number in cert title. In most cases, the requirement will be one exam. We are looking at other options such as continuing education credits, but for now we are planning to require an exam. We’ll remind you about a year ahead, but you will always be able to see your upcoming inactive date on your transcriptDifferent frequency for dev and IT Pro based on survey of over 900 customers last summer
You’ll see a wide variety of question types in our exams, which makes our exams feel more real-world and challenging. Multiple choice items are just the beginning. Extended matching presents the same list of answers in multiple questions. Code review is for developer exams, and requires you to answer a series of questions about a sample application. Case studies are typically used in IT Pro exams, and present information about a company and its IT environment, and you need to identify the best solution to meet a particular goal. Choose all that apply is quite self-explanatory, as is best answer. Active screen, drag and drop, and build list are all question types that require you to interact with the item on the screen by dragging an item or clicking on an image. We are also working on a new item type that will begin to appear in SQL exams in June. In this item type, candidates will be presented with a scenario that requires them to return specific results from a set of tables. The candidate is required to type in a T-SQL query to accomplish the goal statement in the question.
Customers who have achieved an MCTS on SQL Server 2008 can upgrade to the new MCSA: SQL Server 2012 by passing two exams. Upgrade exams are scheduled to be available early summer 2012.
Customers who have achieved an MCITP Database Developer 2008 or MCITP Database Administrator 2008 can upgrade to the new MCSE Data Platform by passing three exams. Upgrade exams are scheduled to be available early summer 2012.
Customers who have achieved an MCITP BI Developer 2008 can upgrade to the new MCSE BI by passing three exams. Upgrade exams are scheduled to be available early summer 2012.
True1:1 mapping--Same objectives in course as are in the examAll courses are five daysCourses that map to Exams 465 and 467 are not yet available.Hands-on labs are focused on building solutions.Azure threaded throughout as appropriate and Student Azure Accounts are available.Training for SQL Server needs to support many diverse secondary audiences. To this end, we have developed the SQL Server 2012 courses to support custom deliveries. Modules & Labs were designed for modularity. For example, if you need a T-SQL course for Report Developers, you could do a four-day course that includes the first four days of 10774 + 10778 module 3. If you need a course to focus on Data Quality, you could do a one-day course that includes 10777 modules 7, 9, 10. Or maybe you need a course on Building Reports and Visualizations with SQL Server 2012—then you could do a two-day course that includes modules 2, 3, 10, 11, 13 from 10778.
Exam prep also has 1:1 mapping, as usual—but now we have some other options in addition to training kits. There will be at least one exam prep book for each exam, though some will not be available until 9 months after the exams first go live. Training kits are expected to release in mid-August. 461 Rapid Review in September, the other two in December 2012. Exam Refs for the expert-level exams are not expected out until March 2013.
A variety of books releasing between April 2012 and November 2012. Note that Introducing Microsoft SQL Server 2012 is available as a free e-book. Many titles shown on this slide are planned, and have not yet started, so some of them may take longer or release with different names.
