Games of the XXXI Olympiad Rio 2016
Dear Marcelo,
The Olympic flame was extinguished on 21 August with the spectacular Closing Ceremony
of the Olympic Games Rio 2016, the first ever in South America.
The world’s best athletes provided us with over 16 days of thrilling competition which the
whole world witnessed. These Games have showcased Cariocas and Brazilians at their
best. They have transformed the city and the life of the citizens forever.
We have all taken part in something very unique and historic. Your direction and teamwork
in the delivery of Games Technology infrastructure, services and operations were of key
importance for the success of the Games. You overcame all obstacles and met the
challenge of staging all the competitions. We would like to express our deepest gratitude
for your continued contribution and dedication.
The enthusiasm, passion and hard work of all the staff members and the thousands of
volunteers were really remarkable. Visitors, athletes, spectators, media and the Olympic
family alike were all highly impressed by the warm welcome they received.
The world was also able to delight in the images of sporting excellence and countless
cheering fans staged in the magnificent city landscape of Rio de Janeiro. The fair play
demonstrated, through amazing record television coverage, enabled audiences to enjoy a
very inspirational Olympic experience that touched the soul of every nation.
We would like to thank you once again for your great involvement in the organisation of the
XXXI Olympiad Rio 2016. These Games will long be remembered as one of those
moments in which we all shared the same inspiration, enthusiasm and passion.
