part added to the
beginning of a root
word.

3. Prefixes are added to the beginning of a
base word. They change the meaning
of the base word.
Un + happy = unhappy
Re + do = redo

4. Prefixes
Add a prefix to the beginning of each word to make a new
word. Draw a line form the word to its meaning.

meaning. It is the most basic form .
Affixes are added to the root to create a
new word.
• A root can be at the front, middle or end
of a word.
• Many words in the English language are
based on Greek & Latin word roots.

prefix + root + suffix
