The name “Pharaoh” comes from two ancient signs in Egypt
meaning “great house” which is usually referred to the palace or kingdom, but
in Ancient Egypt the most common meaning of the word pharaoh, was the
supreme leader of the land.
This leaders were like kings or emperors for the Egyptians and also both the
political and religious leader, they even thought of them as one of the gods.
Bilateral hieroglyphs
Historians divided the timeline of Ancient Egypt in Dynasties.
Although trough the history of Ancient egypt there were
supposed to be over 31 Dynasties, there where some
pharaohs that became more important than others, such as:
• Tutankhamun
• Ramses II
• Cleopatra VII
Nowadays he is largely famous
because much of his tomb remained
intact, due to this we have one of the
greatest treasures from his rule. He
became Pharaoh at the age of 9, and
tried to bring back the gods that his
father, Akhenaten had banished.
Ramses II was often
called Ramses the Great,
he ruled for over 67
years. He is at the
moment so famous
because he built more
statues and monuments
than any other Pharaoh.
Cleopatra VII is often
considered the last
Pharaoh of Egypt. She
maintained power by
making alliances with
famus Romans like Julius
Caesar and Mark Antony.
The Egyptians believed in the afterlife, so most of the Pharaohs were buried after their death in an
Egyptian pirámide. In these pirámides the pharaohs were buried with their belongings.
The Egyptians believed the dark área of the night sky was the physical Gateway into heavens. So it is
thought that the pyramid was built to help the deceased pharaoh’s soul to raise into the home of the
gods.
