Pettit National Ice Center Social Media Plan June 2015­August 2015
The Pettit National Ice Center would like to use social media to encourage the people of
Milwaukee to continue to partake in open skate during the summer months. They would also
like to increase awareness of summer activities and events. The focus will be on parents,
specifically mothers of children between the ages of 5 and 12 years.
Facebook: Facebook is the most expansive social media currently available and will be
used to convey the widest variety of information. It will be used as a tool to connect
parents to the skating world during the slow season. Facebook will provide articles and
information about figure skating and hockey. It will remind them of upcoming skate school
sessions and allow them a simple way to pre­register. Facebook will allow feedback from
viewers and most importantly keep ice skating in the forefront of parents’ minds when planning
summer outings.
Twitter: Twitter will be used to keep parents up to date on summer events, activities and
discounts happening at the Pettit Center. Twitter’s simple short tweet make it the perfect
social media to keep followers updated. It will be used to gain feedback and personal stories
from patrons.
Pinterest: Women are four times more likely to be Pinterest users and since mothers are
the main audience it was appropriate. Pinterest will be primarily used to keep ice skating in
the minds of parents. It will also have posts that will appeal to parents in addition to posts about
skating and Pettit activities.
Our Twitter and Facebook page will be monitored daily. Facebook will post one to four times a
week during the summer. Questions posted on Facebook wall must all be responded to.Tweets
will be used one to four times a week. Retweets will be posted when appropriate. Pinterest will
be utilized about once a week. One board will be pinned at a time with between one and six
pins.
Main Message: Our main message is that the Pettit Centers open skate time is a wonderful way
to beat the heat this summer.
Secondary Message: We also like to keep patrons aware of all the events and activity
happening at the Pettit Center this summer.
