TransEd Partners Awarded Largest Infrastructure Project in Edmonton’s History
Toronto, December 8, 2015 – The City of Edmonton has named TransEd Partners the preferred proponent to
design, build, finance, operate, maintain and supply vehicles for the Valley Line Light Rail Transit – Stage 1 project.
The Valley Line will be delivered using the Public-Private Partnership model. The successful TransEd Partners
consortium is made up of Bechtel, Bombardier, EllisDon and Fengate Capital Management.
“TransEd Partners is excited to be working alongside the City of Edmonton on this important project to expand the
local LRT network. Our team looks forward to improving the travel options accessible to the citizens of Edmonton
in a safe, sustainable, and affordable manner,” Mac Bell, Bid Director, TransEd Partners.
The Valley Line LRT is a significant part of the City of Edmonton’s transportation plan and will cater to the demands
of one of Canada’s fastest growing cities, which is expected to increase in size by 50 percent by 2040. The
proposed multi-phased, 27-kilometer urban route will ultimately create 25 new stops and 3 stations, serving an
estimated 100,000 daily commuters. The line will run southeast to west from Mill Woods to Lewis Farms, crossing
through Edmonton’s downtown core.
The Valley Line LRT – Stage 1 project encompasses the 13.1-km, 12-stop/1-station portion between Mill Woods
and 102 Street, connecting commuters with the Capital Line and Metro Line at Churchill Station. The project is
currently on schedule for construction to begin in 2016.
“We feel confident that TransEd Partners shares Edmonton’s vision for its future, and is the right partner to bring
this vision to life,” said Acting City Manager, Linda Cochrane. “The procurement process on this project has been
very robust and the final deal is one that offers strong value for taxpayers.”
Members of the TransEd Partners team have successfully delivered (and currently maintain and operate) a number
of major transportation-related infrastructure projects across Canada and the world. This includes the Ottawa
Confederation Line LRT, the New Jersey Transit River Line LRT, the Dublin Luas Line B1 LRT, the Nottingham
Express LRT, the Dulles Metrorail Extension (phase 1), and the Eglinton Crosstown LRT.
