- In 2009, the Northern Westchester Shelter, located in Pleasantville, NY changed its name to Hope’s Door. It was a thoughtful 6-month process involving input from the Board of Directors, the Victim Impact Panel and the staff. We also updated our motto. Both the name and the motto better represent what we do and where we do it.
- Allow me to tell you how Hope’s Door has evolved.
- Hope’s Door has positive connotations and does not limit us to providing shelteronly. Instead, like our services, it can offer encouragement and hope.
- We now also help victims of domestic violence from New York City and other surrounding communities. In 2008, 40% of our clients were from outside of Westchester County.
- We needed a name that reflected all of the exciting projects that we have successfully undertaken and the range of services that we continue to offer. “In discussions and in focus groups with former and current clients, one word surfaced more than others: Hope.” (Andrea Naso-Nord, Director of Development and Community Relations)
- This phrase exemplifies what we and recovering victims endeavor to do every day. It is not about running away and hiding forever. It is about the courage to knock on Hope’s Door, and the opportunity to support victims as they begin a new direction. It is about daring to hope for a better life.
