3. The Verb to Be
• Use the verb “to be” before you use the –ing
word.
• I am = I’m We are = We’re
• You are = You’re They are = They’re
• He is = He’s It is = It’s
• She is = She’s

6. CVCE Words
• With a CVCE word, (C = consonant, V = vowel)
Drop the “e” and add –ing.
Example:

7. Add a Consonant
• For other verbs, add another consonant to the
end
• Example:
• stop ----- add another “p” stopping
• run --- add another “n” running
• Swim – add another “m” swimming
