SISTARS UNITED – WHAT WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR.

This weeks topic was
SHARING WHAT WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR.
We hear from a stroke sufferer and a lady that survived brain tumours…..and how they are GRATEFUL!
How can this be?
Gratitude is a practise known by many, practised by few.
How is it that people with the biggest challenges can still be thankful ….even to the issues that many others would be
angry and bitter about?
Below I have written a few tips that I know all my colleagues live by…and the evidence that this works is in the
replay….you should watch this first
Here Is My List For Practising Gratitude.
1. Shift Your Focus To The Goodness In Your Life.
What do you have around you right now that so many others do not? Do you wake in a warm, comfortable bed? Can
you run a tap and receive clean fresh water? How about your clothing….can you walk outside and know your feet are
protected with shoes….your body covered and sheltered from the weather?
What will you eat today? Are you able to open a cupboard and find food? Can you take a trip to a facility that provides
you with a multitude of choices of consumable products?
These are the simplest of things but somewhere else in this world, someone is wishing they had the very same! I am
sure you can think of many, many more good things in your life, can’t you?
2, Remind yourself that nobody has it all. …
You may well think that someone you know and are perhaps a little envious of, has everything. But do they really?
The man in the fancy car and the expensive suit may appear confident and affluent…but how much debt does he
owe? Is he reluctantly alone every night when he gets home?
How about that size 8 model….you know the one….she is wined and dined at the swankiest of establishments…
wears all the designer gear….but how do you think she feels when she purges all that rich food and drink every visit to
2. the bathroom because she is terrified of putting on weight and losing her career?
What about the comedian that makes us laugh constantly and alleviates our stresses just for a little while? Is he
always so happy? What does he hide behind this avalanche of humour and entertainment?
Next time you see someone you wish you could be, consider what you don’t see and be grateful for your blessings..
3. Avoid people who habitually value the wrong things. …
If you are surrounded by individuals that want nothing deeper in life than the latest car, or the next Gucci handbag,
take a step back and ask yourself if you are getting sucked in to a world of emptiness and regret….because you are.
Do you feel you need to dress up and put on a full face of make up or style your hair every time you visit a certain
person? Would they think any less of you if you didn’t? Then is this person or persons really worth your time? Are
they seeing you as a person or simply as an accessory to their own image?
Do you have a friend that only appears to value your company when they need to complain or extract some
sympathy? Have you become an emotional crutch to some one that sucks the energy from you at every visit?
You become an example the environment you keep….make sure it’s a nourishing one!
4. Spend time with grateful people. …
Those people that thank you simply for stopping to chat…those are the ones you need in life. When you listen to the
gratitude flowing from the mouths of others it becomes contagious!
We see examples of disadvantaged communities and individuals every day and it never ceases to amaze me how
grateful they are for what they DO have. The disabled child who is able to enter into mainstream education and be
offered the same opportunities as everyone else……..is grateful. How about the impoverished villagers given a
simple water pump meaning they no longer have to walk for 5 hours a day to collect infected and dirty water?
Grateful!
Think about who you know. Who can offer you a lesson in appreciating the life you have right now? Who was the last
person to tell you ‘it’s not so bad, be thankful that……’? Go spend time with them!
5. Celebrate the success of others.
Instead of collapsing inwardly with an attitude of ‘Why not me?’ try a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to the universe for the good
fortunes of others. The chances are they wanted it as much as you do and by celebrating for them you are increasing
your chances of attracting it to yourself.
Life is not about competition…it’s about creation.
We are responsible for creating our own lives, fortunes, success…whatever it may be that you desire. Seeing the
success of others is simply a reminder that it is also possible for us….we should be excited to witness such things as
it is an indication that we too have the opportunity to achieve whatever we put our minds and hearts into.
3. Practise these habits and you will discover a gratitude for life that you have never experienced!
