Choir Members
A
s we walk the "Hallway of the Arts" into room 107, we
hearthebangingofthepianokeysasDr.Arella starts
the class. We throw our bags onto the table just by
the door, grab a folder of music and take a seat in our
assigned sections. Dr. Arella warms up our voices with
scales of do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do or even a piece that's
known to all choir students, "Gallop." This year, the concert
choir is preparing two different medleys of Disney songs.
The madrigal choir, on the other hand, is preparing to sing
more complex pieces such as "Seasons of Love" from the
movie Rent and "Seize The Day" from Newsies. "Everything
is coming together so naturally
with the choir, this spring's concert
will be our best one yet!" Dr. Arella
exclaims. We asked senior choir
member, Erika Luz what she'll miss
most about choir once she
leaves. "That's easy" she replied, "I
will never forget Mommy made me mash my M&Ms, yum
yum."

rom their red cheeks to the
pound of the drums, the band’s everlasting thirst for excellence keeps the audiences’ feet tapping. This year’s
setlist consisting of Pippin, Majestia, Sweet Trombone Rag, and many others have not only the crowd, but the
musicians themselves humming each tune as they leave the concert. Dr. Macri is not one for requiring themes
when picking her music unless “playing well” is considered a theme. Each song must be challenging yet fun for
her pupils. However, the students are not only being challenged as musicians, Dr. Mac strives to help her students
to become well rounded individuals. Being a part of the band, teaches students to interact within a group yet still
be able to analyze their performances as individuals. The individual is always important, but more important than
solos, is the team effort to truly sound beautiful.
