potential of fuel cells in terms of job creation including
South Africa, India and Mexico;

10. Comparison with Other Sectors
Wind – in Europe it is estimated that the industry has
created some 12,000 jobs pa between 2002 – 2007;
By the end of the decade our forecast shows the fuel
cell industry in Europe to be over 50% larger, in terms of
GRAPH
employment, than the wind industry;
Solar PV – estimates are that 75,000 new jobs have
been created in Europe over the past decade;
This is about half of what we see being created by the
fuel cell industry over the next 10 years in Europe;
What about synergy? Using hydrogen to store
renewables allowing more uptake, more jobs etc. – this
is NOT a competition.

11. Finally – 2nd Degree Job Creation
In Africa mobile phones are being used for banking,
money transfer etc. They are the life blood of the
growing independent micro-economy;
The lack of reliable service mobile phone service is

slowing this down;
Base Stations are being targeted for fuel cell roll out
due to be less of a target for theft, reliable, less polluting
etc.
Getting more base stations and more fuel cells into the
market for Africa is helping the micro-economy.
