2. Introduction
Lisa Post has served as president and owner of
Edward J. Post Company, Inc., a surety bond firm in
Medford, New Jersey, since 1988. A lifelong yogi,
Lisa Post has practiced therapeutic Bikram yoga
three to five times per week since breaking her ankle
in 2011.
Bikram yoga, sometimes colloquially known as hot
yoga, is practiced by millions of yogis around the
world. A discipline of Hatha yoga, Bikram yoga
consists of 26 Hatha postures in a sequence
developed by founder Bikram Choudhury.
3. Bikram Yoga
Choudhury carefully selected each posture to work
out every part of the human body.
Beyond the 26 postures, Bikram is most known for
its “torture chambers,” the nickname many yogis use
to describe Bikram studios. Classes run for 90
minutes and are held in studios kept at roughly 105
degrees Fahrenheit and 40 percent humidity. The
heat, while quite a physical challenge for the
duration of the class, helps improve circulation,
detoxifies the body, and allows for deeper stretches,
among a number of additional benefits.
