2. What is ‘Mise-en-Scene’?
Mise-en-Scene is a combination of many things
that can be discovered by using the
C.L.A.M.P.S rule, this includes things such as
lighting, colour, action, props, costume, and
just the general mood of a scene.

3. But, what is ‘C.L.A.M.P.S’ ?
Simply, C.L.A.M.P.S is an acronym which
describes the components of a scene,
• Costume
• Lighting and Colour
• Actors and Action
• Make-Up and Hair
• Props
• Setting

4. Costume
The costume of a character in a scene can say a
lot about what you are watching, such as the
time period and the wealth of the character.
EG: In this scene, the
Character is wearing a
Rich looking costume
Which looks as if it would
Be from the 1800’s

5. Lighting and Colour
Lighting can be used to set many moods in a
scene, such as Low Key Lighting, which can
give you an enclosed feeling, such as a scene
from a thriller. Colour can be used to tint a
scene which can give it a mood, such as a
blue, cold tint, or a red, dangerous tint!

6. Actors and Action
The quality of the actors in a scene mean a
lot, and also, the things that actually happen
in a scene, can say a lot about what the scene
is!

7. Make-Up and Hair
The make up and hair can tell you a lot about a
scene, like what situation the actor is in, are
they tired, wounded, or even dead!

8. Props
The props of a scene can tell you a lot about the
situation and circumstances, such as if the
scene is set on a stranded desert island, props
will be scarce, whereas in a mansion, props
will be everywhere!

9. Setting
The setting is a HUGE part of any film or
television show, it can set the context of the
scene, and give you a lot of information about
what's to come and/or worry about.

10. The Master Shot
The master shot is the way to set the
scene, showing all of the notable areas of the
location, and all of the characters inside of it.

11. Low angle shot
The Low angle shot is used to create a sense of
power over the subject, or to give emphasis
on the size of the subject.

12. High angle shot
The high angle shot is the exact opposite of the
low angle shot, it makes the viewer see the
subject as a smaller person, or a weaker
person.
