- 4. STEAM UTILISATION COURSE Certified Who should attend? This course is intended for all personnel that are involved with steam plant and are responsible or may become involved with the installation or maintenance of steam equipment. The course covers the relevant mandatory regulations and Health and Safety guidelines. Aims To ensure that all personnel involved with steam equipment understand the principles of steam and are able to recognise how steam equipment should be sized, installed and checked to give maximum efficiency and operate safely. The delegates are given the opportunity to take a certified examination which is a recognised qualification valid for 5 years. - 5. STEAM AWARENESS Who should attend? This course is intended for plant operators, production personnel, and site staff who may be involved in the isolation and reinstatement of the steam system to areas of the plant and machinery. The course not only gives a good practical understanding but also outlines the relevant areas under the PSSR 2000 and Health and Safety Guidelines. Aims To give an understanding of delegates responsibilities with regard to operating steam plant on the site and install confidence to carry out standard procedures. Aims To give delegates a basic understanding of the layout and equipment associated with the boiler house. Also the safety implications and mandatory procedures involved in normal boiler operation. Prices Please see page 7 Continuous Development Courses Itâs a matter of responsibility BOAS BOILER OPERATION ACCREDITATION SCHEME Cat 2 Shell & Tube Steam Boilers Who should attend? This course is intended for boiler operators with a minimum of 6 months hands-on experience or 100 boiler operating hours (for which evidence must be provided). Also open to Boiler Plant Managers and Supervisors with a minimum of 6 months experience in managing boiler house operations. Aims To provide a thorough and complete understanding, and training in preparation for the BOAS qualification whilst promoting safety and energy efficiency in the boiler house with due regard for environmental aspects and legal requirements. Prices Please see page 7 M M TRAINING SERVICES BOILER HOUSE RISK ASSESSMENT M&M Training offer an independent risk assessment of your Boiler House, carried out by professional engineers who provide you with a written report. Should there be any issues, these will be identified within the report by the use of a simple traffic light system. The report will also recommend any necessary control measures needed, and the reduced level of risk shown within the traffic light system. We are then able to offer our services to help you take the necessary steps, to keep all personnel and the surrounding property safe. Risk Assessment in line with BG01 Guidance on Safe Operation of Boilers Within our detailed risk assessment report we will consider issues such as: The likelihood and severity of potential injuries The location and layout of the boiler room Capability of safety-related systems Operational risks Manning levels Additional controls for remote or unsupervised boiler operation Review current installation against latest guidelines Recommend any amendments to procedures to ensure plant continues to be operated safely Provide suggestions on efficiency and energy savings Prices Please see page 7 PAGE 5 BOAS Accredited Course
- 6. BOILER HOUSE RISK ASSESSMENT TRAINING COURSE Who should attend? This course is designed for all managers of operators, contractors and visitors to the boiler house. Aims To enable the responsible person with risk assessment experience to be able to undertake their own technical boiler house risk assessment. The technical boiler house risk assessment is a legal requirement under section 8 of the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) 2000. There is also a legal requirement under the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations (MHSWR) to undertake risk assessments. The absence of any risk assessment is a clear indication of legal non-compliance and inadequate safety management. You would have no defence in a Court of Law. We aim to provide a sound understanding of: ⢠Legal responsibilities ⢠Financial efficiency ⢠Ethical & moral compliance Content Managing Workplace Safety & Health What does the law say? What is a risk assessment? What is a safety statement? Why carry out risk assessments and safety statements? What should be covered by a safety statement? Who is responsible for preparing the risk assessment & safety statement? Who needs to read the risk assessment and safety statement? How often do your staff need to read the safety statement? Carrying out a risk assessment Identifying the hazards Deciding the control measures Recording the findings Reviewing and updating the programme STEAM BOILER WATER TREATMENT COURSE Who should attend? Operators of industrial steam boilers and Plant Managers who wish to understand the importance of, and the methods of ensuring appropriate water quality for their boilers. Aims This course, which includes some practical water testing exercises, will enable the delegate to undertake the most important regular tests on his/her boiler. These tests should ideally be undertaken on a daily basis, but do not eliminate the need for periodic visits by a water treatment specialist. As a result of these tests, the delegate will be able to optimise his/her boiler plant water treatment, improving safety, efficiency and steam quality. Water impurities Oxygen scavenging Scale inhibition/sludge promotion pH adjustment Consequences of water impurities in the boiler Water treatment methods Condensate Boiler blowdown Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) Water sampling Water testing Records Boiler water storage tanks Steam injection Level control Venting Chemical addition points Boiler feed pumps and check valves Health, Safety and Legal requirements Correct dosage of chemicals is an important factor in the safe operation of a steam boiler. Inadequate injection of chemicals has the potential to damage the boiler, whereas excessive dosing dictates high blowdown rates. In addition to the consequent waste of chemicals, excessive blowdown will waste useful heat energy. Steam quality may also be adversely affected by inappropriate treatment, leading to poor and inefficient processes.
