The Boeing Plex

2. Location: Bixby Park, Long Beach,
CA
 Bixby Park is 16.7 acres
in total, which is plenty of
land to work with.
 Contains a skate park,
volleyball courts,
community center, picnic
area, playground,
restrooms and a sports
field.
 Purpose: A sports
complex with a facility for
basketball and tennis and
fields for college Long
Beach Coastal University
athletics.

3. Elements to be included
 Bleachers on the sports fields to seat about
3,000
 Walls to be built around sport fields, with
signage.
 Parking lots on northern and southern ends
of park.
 A large concessions and merchandise area
near the southern end of the park for easy
access for people coming from the beach just
south.
 Another one of these areas inside of the new
facility and another at the north end where
the fields are.
 A 30’ X 30’ TV screen mounted on top of
facility when entering, and another one in the
basketball court inside.

4. Advantages
 Located near the beach and shore.
 In the middle of many streets, easy to take transit to,
about 4 bus stops in the area.
 Because there are sprinklers, fire pits, restrooms, and
a community center already built, utilities will not be
an issue.
 In a scenic area.
 TV screens are feasible and provide a great fan
experience
 The sports field is already there, only needs to have
fences added.
 Playground could be a great area to go to with child
while other parent watches a sporting event
 Skate park that is already there adds another

5. Disadvantages
 Being near those many streets could pose a
problem with out of play balls and traffic noise.
 Being near ocean at times of high tides and
natural disasters could be risky.
 Could be an issue with crowding for the skaters
who like to use the skate park during events as
well as the playground for kids during large
events.
 Unsure if Long Beach citizens would allow the
university to use Bixby Park.
 Long Beach State has the Walter Pyramid, a
three-story multi-sport complex that could be
tough competition.

10. Marketing Plan: General Info
 According to the Long Beach Government
(http://www.longbeach.gov/businesses/top_
25.asp), Boeing is the number two
employer for the Long Beach area.
 We do a naming rights deal with Boeing,
$45 million over 20 years.
 Partnership with Boeing opens up
opportunities; season ticket holders will get
discounts off of flights that use Boeing
aircraft.
 If you purchase tickets in the higher price
range, you get access to the Flying High
Club Room overlooking the facility from the
upper level.
 The club will have a bar, several TVs, a
grand view of the basketball court, catered
food, and memorabilia of Long Beach
Coastal athletics and Boeing memorabilia
hung up around the room.

12. Non-TV Advertising
 Planned slogan for billboard, paper, sign ads: “Come
fly high with the Long Beach Coastal Red Falcons at
the new, state of the art Boeing Plex, located at the
former Bixby Park!”
 The whole “fly high” initiative connects with not only
the team name, but with Boeing and their aircraft.
 Put those ads out on bus stops, billboards around the
Long Beach area.
 Take out a whole page ad space in the Long Beach
Post and Press-Telegram newspapers to display the
ad as well.
 Select days of the week where the beach is packed
and hand out those same ads on flyers.
 Put up that signage near the beach so beachgoers
see it and walk right up to the facility.

 TV ad would feature many famous Long Beach
personalities
 Commercial would cut in parts of each person
saying “Come see the Red Falcons fly high at the
new Boeing Plex” while at locations such as the
Boeing Plex itself, the beach nearby, and streets
around the area.
 TV ad would also cut in shots of the facility inside,
with captions during displaying the elements of
the facility.
