2. The Course There are two parts to Administration! Theory The Theory part of Administration is the written work of the course. In this part of the course there are about 8 units that you will learn about: Unit 1 : Function and Organisation of a business – learning about different departments in businesses and what they do, organisation charts and the structures of businesses. Unit 2a : Office Layout & Working Practices Unit 2b : Health and Safety – Learning about Health and Safety Legislation, emergency procedures and Induction Training. Unit 2c : Reception : Qualities of a receptionist, dealing with visitors, security measures, Paper-based and electronic filing systems, Databases, hardware and Data Protection Legislation. Unit 2d : Mail Handling – Incoming & outgoing mail, electronic and paper based mail and equipment used when handling mail.
3. Unit 3 : Storage and Retrieval of Information – methods of filing and security of information. Unit 4 : Reprographics : features of equipment and in-house v external agencies. Unit 5 : Information and Communications Technology : The use of databases, spreadsheets and word processing in different departments. Unit 6 : Sources of Information : Paper-based and electronic sources of information. Unit 7 : Presentation of Information : Reasons why good presentation of information is important e.g. through charts, graphs and forms. Unit 8 : Travel : Arranging business trips and learning about travel documents.
4. Practical In this part of the course you will work on the computers to create databases, spread sheets, memorandums, PowerPoint's, letters, posters, itineraries and use the internet to make travel arrangements.
