2. Abstain This is when an employee refrains from voting either in favour of or against a motion

3. Address the Chair This is where an employee wishes to speak but must speak through the chairperson e.g. Mr Chairman

4. Adjournment This is when fro example if a meeting is running late then it may have to be adjourned until a later date

5. Amendment This is a change to a proposed motion by adding, deleting or modifying words. This must be proposed, seconded and voted upon.

6. Ballot A written vote with provision for preserving secrecy of each individual’s vote.

7. Casting Vote An additional vote, usually held by the Chairperson, to enable a decision to be made if the votes when counted are equally ‘for’ and ‘against’ a motion
