SynergEyes offers hybrid contact lenses designed to benefit virtually every patient who enters your practice. Whether your patients have myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia, keratoconus or post-surgical irregular astigmatism, Synergeyes lenses enable them to enjoy the visual acuity of an RGP lens and the all day comfort of a soft lens. The spherical base curve SynergEyes A lens is indicated for patients with naturally occurring ametropia and córneal astigmatism. The SynergEyes KC design has an aspheric base curve for the more highly prolate córneas that are seen on patients with keratoconus or other types of ectasia. You can even prescribe SynergEyes hybrid lenses for your presbyopic patients and soon there will be a lens for the oblate, refractive surgery or post-trauma challenges.
An astute practitioner will soon notice the lens calculator typically recommends a lens with a base curve that is approximately 0.3mm (1.50 diopters) steeper than the flat K reading. And also predicts that the patient will most likely require an additional half diopter of minus power for each tenth of a millimeter that you steepen the base curve.
Each SynergEyes diagnostic lens has laser markings that indicate its lens type and base curve and skirt curve radii. This reduces the chance of mix-ups or confusion resulting from a diagnostic lens inadvertently being placed in an improperly labeled vial.
Now we will review the slightly different approach to managing “irregular córnea” to the proper fit with SynergEyes lenses.
Lens removal is as simple as compressing the bottom edge of the lens to cause the skirt to pucker at the 6 O’clock position, thereby releasing the lens from the surface of the eye. A video to demonstrate proper patient lens care and handling is available on the Synergeyes website at www.synergeyes.com and from SynergEyes Customer Care.
