- The LSU Stephenson Disaster Management Institute is committed to promoting a cultural shift in the value of preparedness through a national initiative in small business preparedness. SDMI aims to implement preparedness and mitigation outreach and education projects geared towards small business owners and non-profit organizations about the risks to which they are vulnerable and ways in which those risks can be reduced through multiple preparedness and mitigation methods. The CSIS-LSU Series on Disaster Management & Emergency Response provides a forum for government officials, experts, academics, and nongovernmental organizations dealing with disaster management and emergency response to discuss critical issues facing the United States’ ability to address disaster and emergency situations domestically and internationally. Speakers have included Admiral Thad Allen and Craig Fugate. We are featuring 3 special discussion devoted to the crisis in Japan. Our next session on May 23rd will addresses the Economics of Disaster Prevention. Skip Breeden will have already spoken about it so you just need to reiterate SDMI developing the implementation plan- major initiative with GOHSEP, etc. Command College is a comprehensive program that provides training and education for the complete spectrum of emergency management, from practical challenges that first responders experience in the field to executive government leadership. The program is for parish emergency management directors and staff, first responders, government, GOHSEP, private sector and non-profit leadership.NBEOC- LA BEOC is going to take an active role in the NBEOC initiative.
