publishers are facing today. Which is why it becomes vital to
understand the various methods of marketing your app. A
prime way to do so is App Store Optimization or ASO.

What is ASO?
• App store optimization is the process in which you ensure
that your mobile app gets a higher ranking in the app store
search results. Higher the ranking, greater the visibility and
hence more potential for traffic.
• ASO is to not just ensure traffic to your mobile app but also
goad them to download your app.
• ASO requires a clear-cut understanding of the target
consumer, the keywords they employ to search apps and the
language they are using.

Tips to using ASO
Though ASO is vital for the success of an app, employing ASO is
not as easy as it sounds. Here are some tips to effectively shore
up your optimization.
• Choose the right title
Just choosing a fancy or a ‘creative’ title is not enough. The
title should not only indicate what your app is about but also
must strive to include the keyword that your customer is most
likely to use to search for similar apps.

• Keywords, keywords
Major app stores, Apple and Google both employ different
strategies regarding keywords for ASO. Apple allows app
publishers to use a 100-character keyword limit while Google
allows a 4000-character limit. This gives publishers enough
and more options to optimize their keyword usage and
strength.
• Understand your customer
The first step in ASO is to understand the target consumer
deeply. For this the publisher or the marketer needs to study
various parameters including keywords, the language of the
potential customers as well as the strengths and weaknesses
of competitors.

• Encourage feedback and reviews
Positive reviews is one of the greatest determinants of
increase in rank. Good reviews and feedback talk about the
quality of your app to the potential customer and have a great
influence in their decisions. But don’t overdo it and ask the
users for feedback every time the app is opened. This might
actually have the opposite effect.
Using ASO is as much about staying clear of the ways to ‘not’ use
it. But with the right kind of effort and targeting the consumers,
ASO can help make your app a successful one. Who knows, it
might well turn out to be the next Pokemon Go!
