1. Evaluation:
Question One- What ways does
your media product use,
develop and challenge forms of
real media products?
Chloe Boylan.
2. Our music video supported the genre of Jazz as we followed some of
the major conventions of stereotypical music videos of this genre. I
think we were successful in doing this, because upon research, we
found a few music videos that had themes that were similar to ours
and we also got inspiration from a few existing videos in order to make
our video look as conventional and professional as possible. The target
audience ranges from 18-21+ because a lot of gambling, smoking and
alcohol use is shown within our music video, which younger audiences
could be negatively influenced by.
3. Comparable Artists.
Our comparable artists were Justin Timberlake,
Westlife and Frank Sinatra as these artists have
albums and videos of the soul jazz genre, which we
could relate to, and get ideas from.
As Frank Sinatra’s music was all in this genre, he is
the basis of our inspiration. His appearance, video
themes and music all express the kind of person he
is and all shows key element of the traditional soul
jazz genre.
4. As Justin Timberlake is a more modern type of artist with soul jazz
influences, we decided to base the look of our star on him, because he
looks very in style, but he still looks like an artist from this genre. This
look tat he holds is what an audience first notices about him, which is
what we wanted to achieve in our music video.
5. We represented our star as being modern, but with classic, traditional
elements to him which make up the overall feel of our music video.
Themes such as gambling, smoking and drinking alcohol are well
appreciated pass times by young people, but older people who had this
lifestyle as youngsters can also identify with this. This is why our star
appeals to a wide variety of people, as he can be identified by several
generations of people.
Having this balance of old and new time periods, allowed us to be
creative with the video, giving it an older look to it in some places,
while making some of the scenes look more current especially with the
use of colour in these parts. This way, we targeted all ages, so it could
be enjoyed and appreciated by everyone.
