This document discusses the success of exporting the Swedish outdoor preschool concept of Skogsmulle to Japan. It began in 1988 when a Japanese woman tried an outdoor preschool in Sweden with her daughter. In 1992, the Japanese Outdoor Association was established to promote Skogsmulle. They have trained over 2000 outdoor leaders. Skogsmulle has reached over 30,000 Japanese children through preschools and other programs. Its success is attributed to strong municipal support, ongoing training of new Japanese leaders, and collaboration with Swedish Skogsmulle experts. It is now a widely established program across Japan.

• In the middle of 80’s, motorway built in my home
town without any environmental concern.
• Growing numbers of children who do not play
outdoor. Their contacts with nature were
disappearing
• Lack of ecological knowledge
