In 2014, people will be able to purchase health insurance through what are called “exchanges.”The Exchange will be available in 2014 and it is essentially a marketplace where individuals and small businesses can buy affordable coverage. Plans that want to sell in this marketplace must meet important criteria—basically, they have to provide good coverage. You will still have a choice of plans, and still get to choose your doctor. The exchanges won’t take away anything, just make coverage better. 1st let’s review what is accountable care (slide). Where UT is in process: Jan. 1, 2013 all M plans transition to fully capitated payment structure (will bear full risk). This puts all the plans on a level playing field, the 1st step toward accountable care. From there, will develop quality + outcome measures and payment methodologies (like bonus payments for meeting certain quality benchmarks) to support more robust ACOs. Now is the time to get involved and make sure we bring UT’s excellence in care delivery deeper into Medicaid. If all goes well, we will get better care for patients at the same or possibly at lower cost to the taxpayerUHPP is part of a multi-stakeholders collaborative to make the most of this process. UT Org of Nurse Leaders might want to participate (give Jason’s info)
